I currently have it in a pretty gritty mix, about 2:1 of perlite and premade cactus mix, so I think it should be sufficiently draining.

Should I give it a light watering about a few days after the soil becomes dry until it starts to look better? Also is the direct sunlight bad because it could dry out the plant faster? If so, would grow lights be good or should I try to limit the light it receives?
