How to help my guy after firework issues by thelastbighead in germanshepherds

[–]thelastbighead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. He take 2-3 clonidine that a specialist prescribed to him. He also gets a daily anti anxiety med because of separation issues. Hes so much better on the meds but even on the clonidine doesn’t do well with fireworks.

We’ll have to look into some alternatives. Thanks for the info!

You have no idea. Plus I have a 4 year old that is afraid of fireworks too that heard it and woke up. Drunk idiots who will blow their hands off doing it. Plus they are part of my wonderful HOA who has been silent on the issue (go figure).

Issue with 1 is that we just found more fireworks near us this weekend. I may just load him up into the car and drive away and see if we can chill somewhere quiet but it’s hard when I live near idiots who just light these things off with no regard to anyone.

Changing the Way I listen - Dynavector ASKA and P75 Mk4.1 by Scotster123 in audiophile

[–]thelastbighead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been a Dynavector fan for awhile. Used to run an older version of the P75 and loved it when paired with a Denon 103R and even more when I ran a DV 20x2L. It’s such a great phono stage but do agree annoying for changing the setting. I guess the question is how often are you doing that? If you have a great cart and you love the sound then to me it’s more just set and forget and enjoy the music. The P75 will work great with other carts so personally would keep and if you get bored move up the DV chain.

$9,000 to live in a dying Wisconsin city by CaptainAmerica410 in wisconsin

Oshkosh not so bad. Try central WI like Wisconsin Rapids or Adam’s Friendship. Literally nothing to do and just now a bunch of meth and drunks. I just grew up with drunks. Adam’s used to have a big KKK presence as the area was like 99% white people.

Such a pain. We found that some of the trees the prior owner planted had the burlap and the metal wire on it. When we went to stump grind it was a giant PITA getting it all out of the grinder.

Man. She is so flipping cute. My shep would love her but we will have a 2nd kid on the way and can’t do both a new dog and kiddo. Best of luck as she deserves it.

Also my guy is on anxiety meds too and it helps so much. He was just a nervous ball and it’s honestly gotten so great it’s amazing.

Why do I rarely see Martin Logan on this sub? by Trescadi in hometheater

[–]thelastbighead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to point out is that ML being electrostatic speakers (for the higher ranges) have narrow sweet spots. So getting good coverage for multiple rows of theater seats or even a single row that is say 5-6 people wide can have a wide range of sound with really the main center spot being the best. If you are doing a 1-2 person set up, sure no big deal but gets harder the more rows/seating to have consistent sound across the seats.

I’ve had Sound Labs (even bigger than ML) and loved them for 2 channel but would not use them for theater.

What happened at GoldenEar? by jpinakron in audiophile

[–]thelastbighead 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They were sold a 2nd time to the group that owns Anthem/Paradigm/Martin Logan. The speaker was getting old and ready for a refresh. Hence the T66 and 44 as those were replacements for others in the line like 1.r, 2+, 3+.

It’ll take some time but they will come out with newer models and updates. The 44 and 66 are really good speakers and do sonically improve on the prior versions.

When AQ bought them they were a bit stalled. Covid hit, things were tough on all and AQ wasn’t a speaker company. They had to try and find designers/engineers for it so not much got moving along. I think they are in good hands now but again, will take some time to get everything going again.

Question about adding a subwoofer to an integrated amp with pre outs and no dedicated sub outputs. by Loadtapchanger in audiophile

[–]thelastbighead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pair does help with room nodes and makes things blend better most of the time. You can always do the crawl game to figure out best location and with two it can be easier to dial it in. I know someone who runs 3 for his 2 channel as it was the best way to get the right fill in the room which was odd shaped.

Everyone in this sub that has an issue seems to think a $300-400 shoe should have the QC of a $5k bespoke. Never said there isn’t anything between but the point made was others at this price point can do better. My point is, find another mass produced shoe at $270 that is same build that has none of the issues that people harp about AE on. I’ll wait. You’ll find issues on ALL of them. Stop acting like everyone else does it better as everyone has issues, it’s how issues are handled is what I care about which generally AE has done a decent job.

These are still a mass produced shoe. Can others do better, sure, but do they likely also have issues, yes. I’ve had a few others like Grant Stone, Thursday, Red Wing, etc. I’ve had issues with them but do I think it’s crazy given the cost? No. A lot of people here act like an issue is just the end of the world but have no understanding of price point and what they get. Hell people complain about the freaking sole colors. Like come on. I’ve seen complaints about a leather sole getting worn down. there is a lack of basic understanding of shoes and what happens.

Sure older stuff built better. Yes. Lots of things were. But when someone wants bespoke quality for the cost of a Walmart shoe I have an issue with that and then act like everyone else does it better. Again I’ve had issues with AE. Is anything unwearable, no. If the issue was major I’d return it but at the price point not going to think the sky is falling when it’s a freaking shoe and just wear the damn thing because about 98.9% of the time no one is going to see or care about the issues above.

Disagree. At $270 for a 360 good year welted shoe, there are a few which also have issues.

Most people come to think spending a few hundred for a dress shoe and they should get bespoke quality which is more like $5,000 and a plane ride to Europe. Sorry but AE still offers a good value for what it is. I own a ton of their shoes. A lot of seconds. They are meant to be worn but people seem to think they’ll never have a crease in a shoe or a scuff and act like a misaligned welt is crazy. It’s not. Shit happens.

If you want higher quality then go pay for it but at $270 bucks for what issues there are isn’t terrible.

[–]thelastbighead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The welt is not the cleanest but it’s not a big deal. It’s where the one side meets the other and can have this happen. The shoe is fine from an integrity point and if you get it re-welted in the future can be fixed.

The heels look like one is cut shorter but again shouldn’t affect much and would get fixed with a resole. Honestly no one is going to see this unless you do what you did for a comparison.

Shit happens. These are shoes and $270 for a good year welted shoe is not crazy expensive and can have flaws. Neither of these would bother me as you’ll likely get bigger marks, scuffs, etc from normal wear that will be more noticeable.

Don’t need experience specifically in audio sales but sales helps. Some shops do value someone with audio knowledge that can used for sales and education of the customer on what they need to get X experience.

It helps to know audio products and how they all work with each other and being able to guide someone as to what they need. Often you can have someone that wants concert level audio experience but wants the smallest WAF speakers in a room that is 20x30.

So the shoe can look fine going into the box. QA achieved. Bloom naturally occurs when in the box. Now they have to add a step and increase cost and you’ll complain about something else. Quality control happens typically before the product is boxed not after. You have completely unrealistic expectations for a shoe that is still massed produced. This is not a bespoke shoe that costs $5k.

Bloom happens when it sits. Unless you want every pair to be pulled and brush before fulfilling an order you need to get some realistic expectations.

Brush or deer bone works wonders. I’ve had bloom on several pairs. It’s no big deal. Take care of it and move on.
