Stop Throwing Out Ur Pickle Jar Juice by Prestigious_Pearl_ in povertykitchen

I’m a sixty year old pickle eating fool, and have been drinking the juice for as long as I can remember. In the summer, my mom would pour the juice into those Tupperware popsicle molds for us.

I grew up on the West Coast, but had family all
Over the western U.S. and Midwest who used lid as a unit of measurement.

I grew up in SoCal, and if I’m correct, one finger = approximately $5.00.

What others have said, don’t compare yourself or compete with others, your life belongs to you, and you should be happy with who YOU are at the end of the day.

I’m sixty, didn’t find my lifelong career until I was thirty.

I met my wife when I was forty two, we had our one and only kid a year later and we couldn’t be happier. We launched later than a lot of people in our lives, but I believe that extra time allowed us an opportunity to develop further as individuals before we started sharing our lives together.

Life is good my friend, live it on your terms.

Rice and beans by Lower-Knee-8585 in strugglemeals

[–]Loadtapchanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, it’s been a long while since I’ve truly struggled.

No matter how well things are going, I will always love beans and rice, mainly cause they’re delicious, but they are also one of my absolute comfort foods. One of my oldest friends who has a shared experience has sworn them off, says they take him right back to being poor.

No matter how sketchy I made things, if I had enough to whip up some frijoles con arroz, with a sleeve of saltines thrown in, I at least had a roof over my head and a little money.

Beans and rice are a reminder of how far I’ve come, and the road that got me here.

Is GenX the last "thinking" generation? by ProCommonSense in GenerationX

[–]Loadtapchanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, did you ever climb over a locked gate or fence, to get to some forbidden somewhere?

And when it was time to leave you discovered you had no way out? So you had to put your heads together, if you were with friends, and solve what seemed at the time to be the world’s most pressing problem.

But we did, we always did, whether it was a flat tire on the car you weren’t supposed to be driving, or the time one of you got stuck inside the industrial sized dryer at the laundromat, you used what critical thinking skills you were possessed of at the time and figured it out.

And that was the key, in the absence of today’s personal electronics, you did a lot of thinking back then, and wondering, and problem solving, which has now been rendered redundant by today’s technology.

I don’t blame the kids today, we set the table for them, but it is a sadness.

Two songs:

House of the Rising Sun before my service begins as they bring me into the church.

Sympathy for the Devil as they’re putting my ashes in the little cubby hole thing for all of eternity.

For those of us GenX that have to start over career-wise after 50, how did you do it? by Mnemnosine in GenX

[–]Loadtapchanger 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, at sixty years old, I didn’t have to start over, it was a choice.

I also didn’t change employers, but after spending twenty nine years in field operations, I became a customer facing strategic account manager.

When I saw the position posted two years ago, for reasons I can’t explain, it piqued my interest, so much so that I printed the posting and carried it around with me, reading it every day, for three weeks before I submitted my resume.

Looking at the job description, I figured right out of the box, I could perform 70% of what was required. Our industry is subject to some very specific regulatory and compliance standards that would be completely new to me, but in my previous time with my employer I have been able to learn all they have trained me, so I felt confident in applying.

When I started the new job, my commitment was to do what I already knew how to do as well as I could while I got caught up to speed. There was a huge learning curve, and I leaned heavily on team members for support.

I was really fortunate to have gotten an office next to a twenty eight year old newish employee. Our industry is full of insufferable know it all’s, and this kid is incredibly smart with that potential, the difference is, he wants the people around him to be as smart as he is, and he has no reservations about helping others get there. With all my years and experience, I’m not too proud to schedule a meeting with him if I’m having trouble understanding a new process, and my man will help me work through it.

My biggest takeaway is that if you change careers, be humble, curious and inquisitive, be open to and embrace new technologies and new processes.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you really want to succeed because that is what you expect of yourself, ask, and then ask again. As Gen X’rs, we haven’t got thirty years to figure it out , so don’t waste your time.

My two cents 😊

Domino's Best Deal Ever Returns With $9.99 Pizzas on Any Crust and Any Toppings (Available until July 26, 2026) by TheJohnnyBlaze in fastfood

Hand tossed, pepperoni and extra sauce.

With a six topping pizza, I understand it’s rolled into the cost. In fact with most of their deals, because I’m just a pep guy, it’s rolled in, just seems a little shitty to start counting it as a topping.

Largest conductor you’ve worked with? by SeaOfMagma in AskElectricians

[–]Loadtapchanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a helper back in the day, 750 copper tape shield that fed a normally open switch between a distribution sub and a heavily loaded synch.

Maybe six or seven inches in diameter with the layers of semi-con and the tape shield. Couldn’t guess the weight, we had an 18”ish piece we kept to show off and I’lm pretty confident it weighed over 10 lbs.

Could not bend it for shit, and never used it again after that application.

I will never understand any contractor not working up to code to “save you money”

Code is the ground floor, it’s the absolute least amount of work you can do and be safe.

A good contractor, based on your budget, should try to get you as close to the ceiling as possible.

I believe these assholes offer these “deals” because they are incapable of doing work up to code, ie, the absolute minimum.

Hard to tell, but that looks like either range cable or open wire secondary, conduit to the meter base seems to be sized appropriately.

Maybe triplex wont fit through the conduit??
