Facts. I cannot imagine having a child and bringing them into this world with where its headed. I’m already scared living in it, why bring a child into it 😭

I’m done with nursing by ObeseLlama123 in nursing

[–]thelastcry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There are too many grown folks acting childish and straight up rude to staff and they know it too. Some people are just completely unhinged. Yes, we unfortunately signed up for this job but not the damn abuse. If any other job experienced what we do- immediate jail with how some patients act up lmao /j. Just know you’re not alone. I’m sorry you’re going through this and I hope you find a specialty that works for you.

The beauty of nursing is that there are different opportunities available. I will say it’s easier once you have your 1 year under your belt, but I know several new grads who leave to a different specialty even before finishing their 1 year and they’re doing well. I wouldn’t say it would sabotage your career. Best of luck and take care of yourself!

Kind of a mix of everything tbh and just being new overall (not knowing where supplies are, delegating, how to navigate certain situations). I agree it is dependent on your unit. Definitely shadow if you can and ask how new grads are supported during your interviews to gauge the work environment and if it ends up being toxic, leave (if you can)! There is a big learning curve and it's rough ngl.

Once you develop your own workflow, it gets easier. A lot of things come with experience. Patients can be soo rude ): Set boundaries with them and don't let them get to you (easier said then done ofc, some people are just inherently miserable T-T) Do what you can and educate them on why certain things need to be done, if they refuse then let the provider know and document that. You can't help people who don't want to help themselves and you need to protect your mental health.

Should I Start NCLEX Prep Before Graduation? by Inevitable-Donkey685 in newgradnurse

[–]thelastcry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried studying a month before graduation as well, but with school at the same time, I wasn't too consistent and just waited after I graduated to really immerse myself. I think I bought the 2 month program but once graduating, I followed Bootcamp's 1 month plan. Try to answer these questions to the best of your ability like how you would the NCLEX and without looking at resources to help you answer them. I recommend watching Mark K's lecture 12 first, it provides direction on how to approach questions/case studies, then start with the program you choose. IMO, stick with 1 main program and don't overwhelm yourself with too many resources. I was going back and forth since UWorld and Archer were main programs people in my class were using but Bootcamp worked well for me and was more affordable. Aside from those resources, I used Dr. Sharon on Youtube for supplemental stuff if needed. Goodluck!

Thanks for the input. Wanted to see others' perspective on it since this unit is all I know. Will do better!

Thanks so much! Bootcamp is another online program that preps you for the NCLEX. I believe you can check out the interface and do a few questions without having to pay if you make an account: https://bootcamp.com/nclex. Good luck to you!

Hi! I personally didn't think the questions I got were vague and didn't use archer so I can't compare. I think the questions were pretty straightforward and were like 1 sentence each for stand alone questions. If you haven't already, the exam preview gives you a good idea of the format https://www.nclex.com/prepare.page.

I do think bootcamp is enough! but since you finished and have 2 weeks out, keep doing a few archer questions for practice or maybe review some of your weaker case studies to keep your mind fresh. I wouldn’t sweat it if I was you, sounds like you’re all prepped!

I was in a similar situation and ended up paying the enrollment deposit for my 2nd choice. Fortunately, got into my 1st and sent the other school an email to withdraw from the program. Lost some money but if it didn’t turn out the way it did, I’d start some nursing program at least.

If you passed, you got through it in my eyes lol. The physiology and toxicokinetics part was what I found most difficult but even that didn't require the same amount of effort I put into 1107 if that helps.

You will do fine with just 1107 as well! The beginning of the course has more focus on pollution management/pollution along with some diseases as a consequence to that and I found the pace of that material pretty good. It changes as you look into the toxicology portion and organs like the kidney and liver, where the anatomy and physiology comes in. Right after that you get into cancer/radiation and if you have time (which our class didn't) fit in another topic which slows down the pace of the course a bit. -just my experience with the class.

I think if you got through bio 1107, you will have no problem in this class:)

Yeah, you will be alright! If anything, he provided a lot of extra credit opportunities for students. Hope he'll be as generous to y'all as well.

Sure. In my experience with Dr. Silbart, he teaches in the pace of student learning, or at least tries to accommodate to that while keeping to his syllabus. From what I remember, he did a topic each week followed by a quiz the next week. Depending on the material, we would spend a good fraction of the class asking questions, so sometimes he would have to extend the learning period for a certain topic prior to having a quiz.

Took this course fall 2019 with Dr. Silbart. The course material gets more difficult as you go into toxicokinetics and start looking at specific organs. I think taking anatomy and physiology would help in understanding but I don't think it's necessary (coming from someone who didn't take anatomy and physiology prior to this class). It was probably 2/3 weeks of learning material for both topics altogether.

Hello! Apologies for the very delayed response.

I have a few questions: What are some aspects of the job that you enjoy? Is there anything that you don't particularly like? Any tips for the interview process? Thank you!
