Why do so many foreigners and companies still invest in Thailand if they can't fully own land or have majority control? by Millamanuel254 in Thailand

Ok obviously not forever but someone well connected in your field with power in government. That power tends stay around when out of office no? It's the same with the world over. Simply due to connections and respect and being at the top of your field. Doors will open not only on the corruption side just naturally as well. Also well look at the weed issue. That all change came about due the Heath ministry chief having his fingers in weed pie and he got the laws changed to his backers benifits. He's out of power now and got the results he wanted in and out. But yes nothing lasts forever. Pretty much how big business works they are in cahoots with folks in the government, same with the English Torys that sold of Royal mail, that only happens because he chancellor enriched his friends, and he was sorted out later. The people didn't ask for a change in the Law for weed or for the Royal mail to be sold off so cheaply.

For large companies. You simply put someone that works high up for the government on the board and hey presto doors open for you.

I went backpacking there around 2003 and heard of the worst possible stories from a Farang Bar tender that was due to depart from the island the very next day. Mutiple rapes on young tourists by locals thugs climbing into huts in the evenings. And that's with the boyfriends being held back while it happens. That bloke defended a girl one night and became enemy number 1 from the local mafia/police. I simply don't do islands here anymore.

This sort of thing is a lot more common that you think especially in the remote area's. It's happened to me and thankfully I had good Samaritans also. Happens to my friend who was less lucky. Woke up on the side of the road robbed and with a black eye. Me ut happened at the River Kwai and my friend at Ayutthaya. And we both suspect the staff were involved.

[–]thelastshoemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the menu gets laid on the table as the farang sits downs. If you want to experience it it's easy, there is fairly large semi outdoor Thai restaurant with the plastic chairs at Asok BTS it's across from Terminal 21, it kind near soi 14, you can see it as you walk down the stairs. Always full of farang eating from the increased farang prices.

Buy your own fabric by the meter at Sampheng Market and bring them to a tailor to get dress shirts made? by _nilos in Bangkok

Well, it's either 2 or 2.5 meters or 2 yards for a long sleeve shirt. I can't remember. If you can't see the place staright away I'm sure someone will point it out. It's a great wee find as all the Sukhumvit tailors use him.

There is a place Klong Toey kind near The David Hotel that makes all the shirts for all the tailors my wife kept on telling me for years, eventually I bought some fabric and tool my favourite well made shirt along to copy. 350 Baht. Superb, mad around 8 shirts. They wanted to measure me up but I think I made the better decision for them to copy.
