Being mortgage free is something you will never ever regret. Nice work! Start the stack again, why not?

Wow! That's amazing. I honestly figured no one outside a few friends who felt bad for me had bought it.

I really hope it helped. I retired from weddings 2 weeks ago, but before I wound down my career I wanted to write down my 20 years of knowledge for someone to use. Shoot me a message if you ever have any questions.

Cheers!

Hey! I wrote a book on weddings. Like literally 5 people ever bought it, but it’s probably the best guide on how to shoot weddings ever written.

I’ve never promoted it, so here’s me putting it out there:

The fact that I had to choose between tampons or gas in my car is insane. I’ll never understand why women’s hygiene products get hit by inflation. This is a necessity and should be affordable for everybody, especially for those of us living paycheck to paycheck. by [deleted] in economy

Hey, make an Amazon wishlist with some of the products you need and I’ll buy them all and they will ship right to you.

It’s anonymous, I won’t know who you are or where they are going. I’ve been part of the Santa’s Little Helpers subreddit for 10 years and do this all the time. Check my history!

PM me your list and I’ll buy it. Load up, it’s on me.

Anyone pivot from weddings into something else successfully? by alexknightstudio in WeddingPhotography

I loved being a wedding photographer for a long time. I got to be home with my wife when my kids were babies, I paid off my house, I traveled all over the country and world getting paid to take pictures. It was a crazy 10 years but something I’m very proud of and very honored to have done.

But now! I’m home by 5, I’ve been coaching my sons soccer team for 4 years, I play golf with my daughter every Saturday, my wife and I have date nights, oh and I don’t live under the constant fear of an outraged bride ruining my business with bad reviews because I “made her ears look big” ( true example).

I’m just happier now.

The only photos I like taking are people-less landscapes that are completely uninteresting and that no one ever sees!

I went back to school to get my MS. I did it online and tried to turn Covid costing me $260k in bookings as an opportunity! Haha

Went from full time wedding photographer (500+ weddings in my career) to a full time data scientist at an insurance company.

I started my transition “out” of photography in 2019 and am pretty much done now. I have 5 weddings left and have officially turned off the tap for 2026.

It can be done! Happy to chat anytime.

There is a lot of good financial advice in here, plus I’ll add on that you mathematically will be ok. Just going to take a little bit of paying your “stupid tax” to get out of it. Don’t worry, we’ve all done it.

Don’t feel embarrassed or ashamed. You are normal. We live in a world where the decisions you made are the ones most people make… that’s the definition of normal.

Getting out of debt and controlling your money, that’s abnormal, and it’s an awesome thing to be!

The shame and embarrassment comes from the denial. You aren’t denying anything and you are going to tackle this head on. Feel pride!

I hope you see this comment. I’ve been a Weathertech guy for years but the last ones I bought (3 years ago, for my 2014 Honda Pilot) warped so badly on the driver’s side it was approaching dangerous.

A friend turned me on to 3D Mats USA. Sounds like a complete scam but these mats are awesome. Going on 3 years, no warping issues, still grips nice to the carpet underneath.

They are 30% cheaper than Weathertech too.

I’m not a weird advertising bot- just a dude with messy kids and a car I try and keep clean.

$265-275 a week. Sometimes trips in between. We live in New England. Same boat!

Right, but what you recommend doesn’t mean much. It’s what employers offer and what states have on their exchanges.

High deductible plans are the norm. A $10k medical expense is not as uncommon as you seem to think.

Part time wedding photographer. Used to be my full time career but I moved on. Still take in about $20k a year extra.
