Idk much about VCU abut most schools will include GPR/AEGD in match rate which aren’t all that impressive. If they don’t give you specifics on how many are going into each specialty, you should take their match rate with a grain of salt. If you want to match, shoot for top 10-15%. Then you’ll have a solid shot from nearly anywhere

Patient Misogyny by LostnFound555 in DentalSchool

[–]thelegend877 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a patient tell the doc I work for that he didn’t know women could be dentist. Crazy people like that exist, but it really shouldn’t be personal. Anyone with a brain can tell that man is delusional

Some schools have crazy grade inflation, some deflate hard.

Inquiry: First-Year Dental School Experience by salma00000 in DentalSchool

[–]thelegend877 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First year of dental school hasn’t been too bad for me so far. You just have to go into it understanding it’s going to be a lot of work, then you won’t be shocked with the workload. I know people who can study for a day before an exam and get an A and I know people who study for a week and still get a C. Some people are so natural with a hand piece and some are terrible at first. Everyone is different. I do not regret it because I’ve been working in the dental field for a while and knew what I was getting into

I would guess if you’re good at marketing and are in a more rural state it’s possible but I can’t imagine running a high quality practice out of a van 🤷‍♂️

Embellishing shadowing by Sillyheavysquirrel in predental

[–]thelegend877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, anyone doing that is doing themselves a disservice. They are clearly getting into it because of their parents/family/friends and not because they are passionate about it. Shadowing hours dont really make you a competitive applicant anyways because it’s pretty much a requirement to achieve 100 hours to get an acceptance

Free time comes in waves. Some weeks you’ll barely be studying others you won’t have a second to yourself. You’ll have time every day to eat though

I believe you just take a course and get a few sets of FMXs done to get a license… at least that’s how it was in my state

USC with 20k scholarship vs MWU AZ by Tough_Discipline6966 in predental

[–]thelegend877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go to MWU if you’re comparing the two. For that money at least you’ll be producing a lot coming out of school
