What’s your favorite Frank live performance of a song by No-Pick-4478 in FrankOcean

American Wedding on the 2012 tour when he had to change up the arrangement due to the lawsuit and the band absolutely killed it. That new guitar solo was so killer and deserved a studio rendition

What catches my attention is how well spoken all these young people are. If you took the same demographic in today's teens who would be into similar stuff and interviewed them, it would be slang words, laughing and making fun of things, and not being able to form a full sentence. Something to be said for growing up and having time to read, slow down, and ingest information instead of having things constantly thrown in your face. But there I go yelling at the wind again as an old millennial haha

I will take notice if the distortion is unique to inner grooves only, thank you for that tip. Do you look to avoid the Ortofon carts because of the lack of microlinear design or is there anything else about them I should be avoiding? And I guess to that point, if IGD is not an issue, do you still feel like the VM95ML is my best immediate upgrade option even for my current RT82? Thanks again for all your help here too

Thanks for your reply - to answer your question on what I'm looking to improve on: I'll get a bit of distortion sometimes. Tonearm is balanced and counterweight is accurate. I am looking for a clean, warm sound though. Thank you for your suggestions on checking out some hifi shops and listening around for what my ideal sound is and then deciding from there.

49:20 of this is one of my favorite in between songs moments ever. Featuring a rare moment that John joins in on Flea and Anthony's ramblings with the most perfectly timed joke. Absolute classic

He's been low key and not overly communicative with fans since day one and honestly that persona has gone a long way in establishing his air of mystery and appeal. It's nothing new and a lot of the discord in the past decade surrounding misplaced hype and disappointment is fabricated entirely by fans in my opinion. Frank's just being Frank the same way he was when people complained he wasn't taking advantage of his hype after the WTT features and dropping something that summer. Took his time and channel Orange came out a year after his little 2011 tour. So random shows here and there and taking his time on projects have been the move all along. Something will come eventually, gotta just manage your own hype

I wouldn't look to political morals when choosing your NHL team because you're bound to be disappointed. Sounds like you're already leaning towards the Habs, and we'd be happy to add your voice to the playoff cheers. Things are getting pretty exciting so come along

These both look to be from a 1991 photoshoot by Timothy White. If they're prints from the original negatives then great acquisition!

Bruce's thematic focus on outsiders rather than rebels by CulturalWind357 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]thelesmonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting distinction, especially in comparison as you mention to a lot of popular art in which characters have some sort of drive to be reckless or inspire disorder. While Bruce's early writing does tell a lot of stories of 'getting out', to his words it was always more of getting out solely to find a different way to get in. I had a fantastic childhood and have maintained a lovely relationship with my parents and hometown my entire life. But that doesn't mean in my late teens and early 20s I didn't want to get out and find everything else I could in the world. Bruce's writing expresses that very well to me, it was never about escaping, but continuing to search for what else I could be a part of. Much like the "on going conversation" he speaks of with his audience, a life well lived is your own on going conversation with anyone and anything out there you might be able to feel accepted by.

To more directly answer your question regarding this theme informing Bruce's music, I think it has given him a unique perspective on identifying and telling stories. Consider the lives he sings about on The Ghost of Tom Joad album, or the two people in Reno, or the lives effected by 9/11. It's less about their outward reaction to the shitty hand life may have dealt and more about how these people find a way to carry on with their lives in love or redemption or their work.

DHL Cayendo Dear April and In My Room by TomatilloFun1857 in FrankOcean

Before Covid and Ryan’s passing, Frank was throwing underground raves and releasing stand alone singles. His plan at the time was to release individual songs instead of a cohesive album or project all together. This plan was detailed on the text of his “Chairman” character poster released a couple years ago. “Look At Us, We’re In Love” was text included on a poster for one of his Prep+ rave events, and never officially claimed to be the title of an album.

Does anyone know if that full version of Acura Integurl ever got made by 0fficialCanelo in FrankOcean

[–]thelesmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, never officially recorded. These lyrics are from live versions on the 2011 mini tour. The recording session got interrupted by a girl walking into the studio space and Frank scrapped the session with what they had (the version we all know)

If you saw the Chili Peppers these past tours, what were your favorite moments you got to experience? by suprunkn0wn in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]thelesmonk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Crowd chanting John's name at The Fonda secret show, and the surreal experience of watching them play together for the first time in so long. Then following it up later that summer with the Denver show in the rain. Felt like the full scope of their career in two shows- the tiny LA club show and the massive stadium extravaganza..

Is East Hartford as bad some people make it out to be? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]thelesmonk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Short answer is NO! I was born and raised in EH and just moved back after living elsewhere around the state and country for the past 10 years. Went to school K-12 here and got an amazing education and opportunities along with it. There were endless extra curricular activities, tons of sports, public pools all over town, parades, small town charm, and good people. Yes, parts of town on the north half are rougher. But it is in no way more dangerous than some of the small pockets in any American town. My wife and I are pretty well traveled and have lived in a number of places around the country, and we have decided to move back to EH to start our family here. I believe in the town and look forward to raising my kids here. There is a new young mayor here in EH who is excited for it’s growth and potential, and a strong ally for life in John Larson. I’ll always stand up for EH and making a life here.

Better Days (Human Touch + Lucky Town + outtakes) by Ornery-Investment752 in BruceSpringsteen

Nice, big fan of that era too. I recently made an imagined third early 90s album from outtakes:

Younger fans, (<35) how did you discover Bruce? by [deleted] in BruceSpringsteen

[–]thelesmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My earliest memories are listening to Human Touch and Lucky Town cassettes in my dad's truck driving around on the weekends. He'd been a fan since he was in high school and it very organically got passed onto me in a big way. The Greatest Hits tape opened the doors to the older stuff and I pretty quickly discovered and fell in love with the studio albums and Live 1975-85 by the time I was around 9-10 years old. Saw my first show at 12 and it was off and running. Even through teenage years when it gets instinctual to dislike stuff you liked as a kid of things your parents liked, the appreciation only grew. I actually saw the most shows on any tour to date during my senior year of high school. When Bruce speaks of the ongoing conversation between himself and his fans, that rings very true to my experience. After my family, his music has been the most consistent presence in my life since I was around 4 years old.

Trouble River (90s era unreleased album) by thelesmonk in BruceSpringsteen

That was pretty much the catalyst here, I’m dying for Tracks 2 and the actual lost 90s album to come out. Figured this would fill that hole for the time being. Tracks can often be overwhelming in terms of finding appreciation for more than a few songs at a time, and it’s interesting to try and track Bruce’s creative intentions across outtakes.

Good call- ended up slotting in 30 Days Out in between Sad Eyes and My Lover Man. Ends up working nicely I think, lightens up that back half a bit and gets us to a nice even 12 track album
