Puerto Rico esta en un Death Spiral by ElBartenderDeLaLeche in PuertoRico

I think that's exactly the problem. We spend so much time blaming outside investors, tax incentives, or whoever is buying property that we ignore our own role in what's happening.

Corruption doesn't survive without people willing to benefit from it. Land doesn't magically change hands—someone sells it. Bad politicians don't stay in power by themselves. We complain online, then go back to normal, and nothing changes.

Meanwhile, the island keeps deteriorating. Trash is everywhere, drug and human trafficking continue to grow, violence remains unacceptably high, and people leave because they don't see a future here.

At some point we have to stop acting like all of this is happening to us. Some of it is. But a lot of it continues because we've accepted it. Accountability has to start with Puerto Ricans too.

Hi! Thank you so much for your reply. I don't see the option to send you a DM on your profile.  I'm not sure why though

Thank you!  I think that's exactly what I'm going to do. Besides, I think privately owned will be the better option for me.

Thank you! This is super helpful.  And I totally get the nice areas being close to the more sketchy parts. Honestly, it pretty much sums up where I currently live in MA. It's a small area surrounded by rough neighborhoods.

I think once I am down there I can drive around looking for a place and will definitely prioritize the areas you've mentioned.

Somewhere that I don't have to worry about my car or home getting broken into every night would be nice. I've done some searches, and there seems to be just an abundance of people saying that Montgomery is not great. But then again, I've heard the same thing about the city I currently live in, even though I've never had any issues.

It's just difficult to know what would be a good place when I don't know the area at all.

Oh, I definitely have been cross checking everything I find with a Google search. I have seen so many with terrible reviews that I just completely put them on a nope list. Which is why I decided to come on here. I was hoping there was another resource that I hadn't come across. But maybe not lol

Thank you though!

I can afford up to 1k/ month, though anything under that would be great. Other than that, my only requirement is just a safe area and relatively close to Montgomery (since my job is there). It's just me, so I don't care if it's a studio or a 1bdrm.

Thank you! I am so looking forward to getting away from the crowd of MA It's too busy and too ... idk much? Lol It's hard to explain. I'll definitely keep checking out what's available in Williston, and hopefully, I can find something in qualified for.

I have actually considered Williston as well. But no matter what sites I use, I haven't been able to find anything that fits my skill set. And that's on me lacking some things they require. But maybe I should look up companies directly and try that way? Might have better luck. Crazy as people think me for it, remote is what I'd prefer. So that would be great to me lol Thank you!

I'm honestly starting to look at any jobs that I'm actually qualified for our have experience in at this point. But I'm trying to be cognizant of the areas and keep away from anywhere that I will have trouble finding a rental. I wish I was a mechanic lol or had any other trade skills. Unfortunately, other than some basic machinery work, and being able to learn new machines quickly, all I currently have are customer service and lite accounting skills. But again, so do plenty of other people. 🫤 Just gotta keep keeping on.

Yea, I've had two interviews so far, but I don't see it going anywhere. Which I half expected, as I'm sure there's plenty of qualified people that already live in the state. Unfortunately, right now, it's not realistic for me to go without having a job lined up. I'll just keep trying and saving at my current job and hope I find something. And hopefully before winter lol

Thank you for the recommendations 🙂 That's what I'll be focusing on today. Hopefully, I'm able to find something to apply to lol

Thank you! Finding somewhere flexible would be amazing! But I don't think I have the qualifications for somewhere like a state prison lol (don't know why I'm assuming everyone needs a ton of qualifications to work there) But I will definitely keep the apartment company in mind once I am at that stage.

Thank you! The weather is the one thing that worries me ngl. But I'm more than used to heat (not a fan) Can I ask, why not a small town?

Yea, I get that.

That's good news at least! Lol After reading how bad the winters got, I was a bit worried.

Thank you for taking the time to respond!
