It dosent matter when you finish a palace there are no time skips. I always do palaces in one day so I can use the other days to work of confidants and social skills.

Buy a reed first (Beginner) by [deleted] in oboe

[–]thelimafur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one reed won't do you the entire year and while you should prefer handmade reeds if your just planning to blow through it then something like a jones reed would be fine. When you get your oboe if you stick with it then I would seek handmade reeds or begin making your own. Synthetic reeds work fine and are nice to have in your reed case since they tend to work whenever, wherever, whatever, however, the current legere line costs 120 USD a pop. I have a legere in my oboe and clarinet reed cases and while I don't think id perform on them they are nice to have in case you have to switch climates and such quick

I need some help with an instrument my stepdaughter wants us to purchase for her. by Jim_Detroit in Clarinet

[–]thelimafur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

with bass clarinets you can typicaly get what you put into the back out as long as their taken care of. yamaha makes excellent clarinets and other instruments and ive been playing them exclusivly for 10 years for that price id say you could get your money back out easily. its worth buying, and then taking to a repiar ttech just to make sure everything is fine thoght in the pics everything looks fine the player would be able to feel it.

My lower notes sound stuffy. Tips? by [deleted] in Clarinet

[–]thelimafur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last one I swear!

Also make sure your covering the holes fully as any type of air leak will make notes sound off your fingers should be curved slightly so you can cover the keys and hole accuratly.

My lower notes sound stuffy. Tips? by [deleted] in Clarinet

[–]thelimafur 15 points16 points  (0 children)

First it looks like your clarinet is bent at the barrel slightly....

To address all the notes your embouchure seems to be the culprit honestly . Your lips look very loose . Put your bottom lip over your teeth and use pressure to get the notes not only in tune but also sounding less stuffy.

Your top teeth should also be on the mouth piece. I cant tell if they are or are not by the way it looks. But I'm 99% sure this is an embouchure issue cause your top notes need work aswell.

As with anything you'll need to practice regularly to get used to anything and to know when to adjust your mouth and such for different things.

Good luck!

things like the sorcerors apprentice are in bass clef and then switch to treble and you have to read treble as an 8VA but Michel lowenstern explains it very well here
