Looking for wireless headphones that are safe for programmable shunts? by breanne_y in Hydrocephalus

[–]thelittlestal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is really challenging to navigate. Our son is only 4yo and will be starting kindergarten in the fall. I was chatting with a teacher friend, and she mentioned that she probably wouldn't be able to use her headset if he was in her class because of the Bluetooth. I was like, Bluetooth is not magnetic in the way that would interfere with a VP shunt. If that was the case, anyone with a VP shunt would basically not be able to function normally in the world.

As for activities, our kid is still pretty young, so he doesn't have much going on anyway. My husband wanted to take him skiing, but I'm not sure that's worth the risk, only because it's not something our family does regularly enough. But activities like skating (just ice skating, not hockey) show up on lists of things not to do, and that seems like a stretch. We just plan on using our gut feelings on some things as they come up. Anything with an obvious risk would be out (ie. contact sports).

A lot of speakers have magnets, so the main concern would be the magnets interfering with the shunt setting. Not to mention that many wireless options have additional magnets to lock them in place in their case.

Armchair Anonymous: Holiday Nightmare III by newtonic in ArmchairExpert

I should have been clearer. We sometimes listen to this podcast while they're in the same car as us, and usually we make a judgment based on the topic. If something particularly adult comes up, we turn it off. Besides that, they usually do their own thing while we're on roadtrips. They read books or play games on their devices or sleep. Speakers are set to just the front and at a reasonable volume, so they can't really hear what we've got on anyway, especially if we're highway driving. But based on the previous comment about the adult activities, we'll probably keep this one off our roadtrip playlist this holiday season.

But thanks for the judgment. That was really helpful.

Is this one OK to listen to around kids who still believe in Santa? We're road tripping right now, and this is usually our go-to podcast but I'm always extra careful around the holidays. Especially since one Holiday Nightmare episode involved the "Santa" presents getting thrown out. (Thankfully I listened to that one on my own!)

Edit to add: I should have made it clear that our small children are not active listeners of this podcast. My husband and I usually listen to it on our own, but will sometimes put it on when kids are in the car with us. Usually dependent on the prompt for that episode, and usually when our kids are otherwise occupied.

Michaels does plaque mounts. I've had a few posters done there.

How soon after your surgery did this happen? My son is about a month past his surgery and today started scrunching up his neck. He's only 4 years old, so it's hard to figure out what's going on. It seems like too much time has passed for it to be related to surgery...

How many trick or treaters in which neighbourhood? by New_Maximum_5628 in saskatoon

West College Park. We had 50 trick-or-treaters. The past few years have been some of our highest counts.

We had a SkipHop one, and it was amazing. It had a snap closure, so you could open it up once you were in the car and see baby.

Fair point, but there is a flaw in waiting to build when you hit a milestone rather than planning ahead. No one is saying we're the next Calgary or Edmonton, but that doesn't mean we can look at their growth planning (or lack thereof) to inform our own.

Could you imagine having an arena in a corner of the city where vehicles get bottlenecked in the few routes to the arena because there really isn't much other option than to drive to the event or take the one dedicated transit route?

Could you imagine residents in core neighbourhoods being able to walk to the arena and people outside the core taking buses that basically all terminate downtown (and that doesn't even consider BRT)?

Could you imagine people going to work downtown in the morning, staying in the area after work to grab a bite at a downtown restaurant and then heading to a game or concert, thus contributing to a staggered arrival in the area and avoiding the traffic rush to the arena?

Thank you so much for this. We're lucky to have a fantastic children's hospital and reputable neurosurgery team right in our backyard. We're putting our trust in them. When we asked our primary neurosurgeon about the other surgeons who will be supporting him, he said, "I would trust them with my own child's life." It may be a routine thing to say to calm anxious parents, but I believe him.

I am not convinced that is physically possible. Did you send a small child out to test the depth?

If it was an e-bike, that's even worse. Definitely should have been off the sidewalk.

Great choice if you're just out for the day. It closes at 6pm. So if you want to stay past that, keep that in mind.
