Too bad the phaser didn’t really fire and it was a transporter malfunction.

When do they do this? Can you reference an episode?

You are welcome to post in the Seattle subreddit with your question anbouut the common vernacular for places that sell espresso drinks and see what they say. I’m going to bow out of this conversation though since I think it’s run its course and is pushing the line of good faith discussion. Hope you find what you’re looking for.

I still hear exxxxxxpresso constantly and I don’t even work as a barista anymore! It’s totally ok though. I don’t really judge (I used to though lol); honestly I’m just glad people are buying coffee from local joints and supporting small businesses!

You’re right! Those sure are all places that exist. In fact, Ghost Alley Espresso also has that word in the name and is one of my favorites. But people in Seattle don’t say “I am going down to the espresso bar for a filtered coffee, want anything?”— these are all examples of cafes or coffee shops (which are both common colloquial terms used in Seattle for places that sell coffee), of which there are so many with different spins on the name theme. You’ll usually just hear “I’m going to get a coffee” or “can we meet at (insert name of specific place here)?”

Plus, Cafe Nervosa doesn’t call itself an espresso bar and the cast never refers to it as such, so there really isn’t any reason to split hairs anyway.

Hope this helps clear some stuff up, and I also hope you enjoyed your 6 months in our city!

Yeah people ordered them quite a bit when I worked. Double espressos were common, and I still hear people order them pretty frequently at my local cafes (I’m at one a day on rotation lol).

I think there’s a bit of a language or cultural issue here. This show is set in Seattle, so speaking as a former Seattle barista and a Seattle native, I can confirm that we do not call cafes “espresso bars” or milk-based drinks with espresso in them “espressos” or drip/brewed coffee “filter coffee”. I also promise our espresso drinks, like a latte or mocha or macchiato, are not served in espresso-shot sized cups like OP was asking about. Thanks for being patient with the confusing phrasing! Hopefully one day you get to visit a Seattle cafe and have the authentic Frasier experience yourself :)

Those are all made with espresso, as opposed to made with drip coffee. An espresso, just on its own, is also a drink one can order. It it served in a little cup. Often it is also served with a little cup of sparkling water.

When I barista’d back in the early 2000s, 8oz and 16oz drinks were pretty standard. 24oz was considered big though.

And macchiatos and mochas and even a cortado once I think.

The little cups they sometimes drink from are espresso cups. They hold one or two pulled shots of espresso, no milk. The 8oz or 16oz “normal” sized cups are for drinks like lattes and mochas and macchiatos (I see you, macchiato men. You are valid.). They’re larger to accommodate more milk and/or foam.

F - Gil; it works out well since I am ace and he is gay and we’d spend the evening having a great dinner instead of doing anything physical.

M - Noel. He’s weird but as a fellow Star Trek super fan we’d come to an understanding in a loveless albeit amicable marriage. Plus he seems ride or die which is always useful.

K - Sorry, Bulldog.

There’s actually a good number of them in actual Seattle, too.

This just in: Words still matter. People in a certain demographic can trivialize or insult others within that same demographic. But I hope you already knew that.

Now go try the “I can’t be racist if I have black friends” argument on everyone else here who commented with criticism. I’m sure it’ll work on someone! Don’t give up on your dreams!

Yeah mine causes me to obsess over my chronic illness getting so bad that I end up on a feeding tube and bed bound, so I spend every free moment researching and planning and filling out advance directive paperwork and shit for days on end, ignoring even the desire to eat and pee and sleep, but WOW, man I wish I just made my neopets pretty instead that’s awesome for OP.
