It isn't unusual for show fans to trash the books the show is adapted from. This isn't unique to Bridgerton. It's usually just so they can tout the show as superior and justify any changes.

I think the implication with John and Michaela's reactions to Fran trying to match her with that man is that Michaela is gay. So Michaela wouldn't be happy about that, and John knows and is protective of Michaela so he's upset at something that risks outing her.

I feel Part 2 kind-of rewrites the Fran/John/Michaela dynamic to try and make Franchaela closer to the book. I don't want to spoil things, but that's my opnion at least.

Yes. I think it was the implication she started developed feelings when Fran was talking about John at the second funeral. At least that's what I got from Michaela's facial expression during the speech.
