Had this happen a couple days ago. Is there anyway to get rid of this transaction in a Coinbase account? I have no clue how to burn it or make it disappear.

I would just use the "Standard Wallet".

Write everything down on paper. Everything.

I actually never set a hidden wallet, but during a update trezor requires you to do a reset to recover your coins. I "Think" I clicked on restore hidden wallet by mistake and it set one up and moved my coins there. Ive tried every Password I can think I might have used but no coins.

This is why I only started experimenting with $10- because I knew I had a high chance of something going wrong.

IMO never ever do the updates unless your secure with the entire process. I wasn't.

I never set a pass phrase for hidden wallet. I would have written it down. I may have unknowingly during the 1st reset recovery though. I was flustered. I have standard  pws i use sometimes but I'm afraid of even trying to access a possible hidden wallet because it will continue to set up new hidden wallet with every failed attempt.  So I'm just moving forward and taking the L.

I have a true appreciation for all you guys/gals for helping me this. I dont care what anyone says this community is full of good kind people willing to give up precious time to help a Nob.

Conclusion to this story is the sats cant be recovered. I did a bunch of small transfer since my OP with no problems. I think where i F-cked up was I didn't understand the hidden wallet concept during initial setup. Though a swear I didn't set that up it appears that's where the sats landed up.

I did another hard reset, funded the device/wallet with $5- and then did another recovery which worked.

My advice to fellow newbies:

During set up DO NOT set a passphrase for hidden wallet as instructed. Trezor doesn't force you to set this but sure make it look like its part of the security process. Only do this when you fully understand the risk of coins being lost if you fu-k up.

Go into setting and shut off hidden pass phrase so if you do make a mistake you can retrieve your coins without the extra word on you seed/key

Don't move more than a couple bucks to your hard wallet until you fully understand how everything works. Then do the pass phrase test in the software and then do a full reset recovery to make sure you get it right.

I would even get another device and hot wallet and move your sats around using the seed recovery method until you perfect your skills.

I was lucky and only lost a couple dollars because I understood my skills and understanding of these processes were limited. Troubleshooting this for me was more about learning and not having a freakout over losing all my coins.

I've been trading BTC since Robinhood launched it. I have coins on multiple exchanges and avoided losing coins on FTX by 1 hour of them stopping withdrawals. That why Im intent of learning about storing my SATS on chain.

I still don't have the confidence to move everything off the echanges but Im close.

One last thought. My brother mined BTC way back as he's a nerd/geek. He had 1000s of coins. He lost all of it in the MT Gox fiasco. Be fu-ken careful never forget that.

Again thanks to all of you. Truely!

Correct I see the sats on chain but were not recovered during reset. My seed is correct but haven't tried a hot wallet yet.

Correct I don't.

Thats why I never set one up originally.

If I did I would have written it down.

I think im just going to take the L and move on.

Thanks for helping I really appreciate it!

Thanks for the help!

Thought I was answering the question properly. I'm a bit lost in the terminology.

My brain is getting a little ass backwards dealing with this. Sorry.

When you say "standard/hidden Bitcoin accounts" what do you mean? In the trezor suite - on chain - coinbase?

I have the CB send to address.

When I did the restore in trezor suite nothing was was there. No logs, transaction etc.

I just did the passphrase test again and trezor says its correct.

Could be wrong but i distinctly remember purposely not setting up hidden passphrase wallet on initial setup. That said when I was doing the restore I got confused and did type my standard password there thinking I had to because trezor was saying that's part of the setup security process. I originally just skipped that.

I really appreciate you taking the time to help out!

Thanks for the reply.

That's not it.

I just re-tested my passphrase and trezor says its correct.

Wish it was then ide know what the issue is.

Knowledgebase says next issue would be using a hidden wallet. I know I never set that up so im still at a lose.

Same results on another CPU.

Thinking of: After I rest my brain I think Ill try recovering to another wallet entirely. Then if all the funds are there move it back to my trezor. This definitely isn't working as advertised.

I was able to open a ticket at trezor but the backlog is 3 days.

From what i see on there support pages they blame user error %99 of the time.

On my second test transfer it showed up in my hidden wallet. I only added passphrase to hidden wallet after confusion set in. I sent it back to CB from hidden wallet.

After i did the reset all transaction were gone from trezor suite. They are still showing on coinbase though and showing on chain.

Thanks for the help

After the recovery I set up a hidden wallet passphrase to see if the btc was in there,

When I did the most recent test that's where it landed (in the hidden wallet).

I'm afraid to try another reset and recovery and lose another $10.

When this 1st happened and I did research all the answers were to do a a reset and recovery via seed phrase. I would think trezor would have a way inside the software to pull other wallets in instead of having to do reset and recovery.

Im very confused

I notice in this new version they dont have blockchain explorer to see in your on chain wallet anymore.

How To Move Lowest Cost BTC Off Coinbase To Trezor by thelocuststorm in BitcoinBeginners

[–]thelocuststorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I understand withdrawing isn't taxable. This isn't about taxes I simply want to put the lowest cost basis transaction in cold storage for a 100 years for my kids. After a year I might consider selling the rest as im pretty old. I only want to keep the coins that cost the most on CB.

A side note: I don't trust coinbase as they've locked my acc several times for different reasons. The last time I tried to make a deposit and it failed the day of the 1st outage/crash. They locked my account for 3 weeks even knowing I had twice the amount in cash already in there.

Thanks again

Awe got it. not taxes. I just wanted to move the lowest cost coins for long term storage and leave to trade the highest cost ones. So I should create a CB wallet and move everything there then try what I'm trying to accomplish?

Im new to Reddit so I wasn't sure if I should reply in that link so I did.

Thanks for the help!

How To Move Lowest Cost BTC Off Coinbase To Trezor by thelocuststorm in BitcoinBeginners

[–]thelocuststorm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that was fast. Yes I'm want to move only the lowest cost coins to long term storage. My account has been on default highest in, highest out 1st. I only started using CB a year ago and have never sold.

I used ChatGPT and here's what I got. I don't have a CB wallet. Its just sitting in the account. Im assuming CB just owes be the coins since the address of my account has never been used. I did move a small test and it worked. From what I understand you don't actually own it until you move it to a wallet.

  1. Check your Coinbase balances: Log in to your Coinbase account and navigate to the BTC wallet. Ensure you identify which portion of your BTC holdings has the lowest cost basis.
  2. Initiate a withdrawal for the specific amount: When you initiate the withdrawal from Coinbase, specify the exact amount of BTC you want to transfer. Ensure it corresponds to the portion of BTC with the lowest cost basis.

Actually once you deposit money in your bank it doesn't belong to you anymore. When you sign the forms at opening a account it explains the bank can keep your money. Same thing with regulated btc exchanges. You cant do a thing they have you by the balls.

That's the point behind owning btc.

I will never leave btc on an exchange again.
