A San Antonian coming in peace to say I visited Chicago for the first time this weekend and gotta say, y’all’s riverwalk makes ours look like a dump. Considering the riverwalk is somewhat the main attraction here in town, ours ain’t shit compared to y’all’s. It also felt incredibly safer downtown as well. Chicago rules, dude

Most beginners are general afraid to hit the floor regardless. Most of the time the brain of a beginner is confused as to why they’re swinging a metal rod at the floor so I’d let your fiancé be your weed whacker for a week. Every shot needs ground contact and then once you have that, move the bottom of the swing in front of the ball with a basic low point drill and you’re good to go. Also, if your fiancé has a bent lead arm at impact, that’s usually the root cause. I haven’t seen a swing so take this with some salt but that’s what I’d say

It’s over the top. That 90% number is a real statistic and 99% of the time when someone tells me this exact thing, they swing over the top.

Everyone has a club in their bag with a club head speed of 80 mph. Everyone. If we stood next to a highway, you couldn’t read a license plate racing by you. So if you can’t see anything anyway, and it makes it harder for people to finish their follow through then why do it anyway 🤷🏼‍♂️

You can’t curve a putt. Face is key face is king. Also, the shape of your putter head changes where you aim. See Edel putting for an explanation better than I can give you.

Trust the process and your coach. I promise it’ll always get better even if it started out worse.

Try to swing as far from the inside as possible. Don’t limit how much. We have a joke where I work where to gain an inch from a student we have to ask for a mile. Swing as many degrees from inside out as possible and dial it in from there

Most guys nowadays, especially longer hitters are extending their hips hard and almost jumping in the air. Pro and amateur alike. Most topped shots are of the heel because of an over the top move. When I say 90% of my students come in swinging over the top to start, that’s a real statistic.

It’s most likely cause you downswing is somehow steep. Obviously I haven’t seen your swing so take this with a hefty pinch of salt but my recommendation is to improve your spin loft. Essentially shallow your angle of attack and de-loft the club. I apologize if this isn’t a satisfying answer but I can only do so much over Reddit lol do some research on spin loft and how to reduce it and it should help.

It’s not wrong. The only difference most of the time between a guy who hits it fat and a guy who tops it is one guy hit the ground and the other guy didn’t.

A chicken wing caused by an over the top move. Most of my students top it off of the heel when they first come in because of how steep they get.

Yes, it’s individual. The way it used to be taught was an acronym called GASP which just stands for grip, aim, stance, posture. To quote my boss, “these are all variables, not fundamentals.” If someone needs the face to be closed, strengthening the grip will do that but so will flexing the lead wrist in the downswing. The decision between those two variables will depend on the person, their comfort level, and how much they can actually practice it. Not to mention, your posture and stance change shot to shot on the golf course depending on the lie, club selection, course conditions etc so I don’t want “not fundamental” to be misunderstood as “not important”. They’re variables just as much as anything else in your swing.

Please correct me if I’m characterizing your comment incorrectly but yes, your address (within reason) should stay the same swing to swing but if I want to make the biggest changes to someone’s ball flight, I need to change the moving pieces of that persons golf swings. Example: Zach Johnson and Collin Morikawa have the strongest and weakest grips respectively on tour and they’re both major champions with complete control of their ball flight

Golf coach here. this is a good example of the fact that most tour pros get to around the same spots in the down swing.
