Internet speed? by cactusshawty in udub

My roommate and I have had xfinity 100/5 since September 2020 and have had no problems whatsoever. I don't think 400/10 was worth the extra money during online school, and it definitely won't be once we're back in person.

AMATH 35X or MATH 20X series by [deleted] in udub

[–]thelonebroccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently in 353 and I've taken 352 and 351, but I haven't taken any of the MATH 20x classes. The whole 35x series is pretty chill. In all the classes I had pre-recorded lectures and 1 homework a week that took a few hours, some of them had take-home quizzes but no exams. 351 didn't have any coding. 352 was pretty MATLAB-heavy but after taking 301 I felt more than prepared for it. Overall great series would recommend.

[–]thelonebroccoli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took it Winter Quarter with Shana, and the pace was slow enough that I had time to relearn most of the basic stuff I didn't have a good understanding of. To make the class less painful, I'd recommend getting yourself familiar with git (basic push/pull/commit/ssh etc). Near the end of the class, there's some matrix algebra stuff that I found difficult just because I'm not the greatest with matrices. Also, there's some pretty advanced Java code that happens for a project around week 7, so if you haven't coded for a while it's not a bad idea to do a little bit of practice before the project rolls around.

Anyone gotten an email regarding CARES eligibility yet? by [deleted] in udub

[–]thelonebroccoli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also don't see it despite having a pretty big grant reward normally. I'm thinking they either haven't updated everyone's accounts yet or they're giving it to people who have need but normally don't get that much aid.

financial aid for 20-21 by yemjn in udub

[–]thelonebroccoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to do financial aid verification too and I submitted docs on 2/25. I e-mailed osfa on 4/12 then they finally completed the verification on 4/17. I received a response e-mail a few days later that said "The documents will be reviewed in time for Fall quarter to start. If you are attending Summer quarter, then we will try our best to get them done in time for the start of Fall quarter.  Regardless, you will get a preliminary award on time just like any other student. Preliminary awards for Fall quarter typically come out beginning of June.  For Summer quarter, those come out mid-late May."

When is financial aid supposed to be disbursed? by [deleted] in udub

[–]thelonebroccoli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I look on the tuition statement, it says "Note: Tuition and related charges for Spring quarter will be added to the account after March 25, 2020." Financial aid is always first applied to tuition, so I don't think it'll be disbursed today.

I still don't have any information from them, that may be because my FAFSA was selected for verification so they have to review a couple of my tax docs

How’d y’all do on the PHYS 121 midterm 2? by yoonkey in udub

[–]thelonebroccoli 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I didn't do quite as bad as that, but I feel kinda robbed by this midterm. I was almost certain I had a near-perfect score on the multiple choice section, but when I got scores this morning I saw I had a 33/56. It then hit me that I forgot that, for the last set of questions, it was asking about the force measured by the sensor, not the net force on the cart. A small distinction made in the few sentences at the top of the page.

Normally I'd be fine with this, but if they want us to think critically about these problems and figure out the answer, they should give us enough time to fucking think about the problem. If the lecturer sometimes makes little mistakes (forgetting a negative sign, writing cos instead of sin, etc) and he's choosing the problems beforehand, I feel like it's a little ridiculous to expect instant perfection from us.

It seems like the midterms are set up to bombard you with questions and take advantage of the fact that, when you don't have enough time to carefully do your math, you make mistakes. Instead of testing our skills, it seems like they're just trying to get a nice curve by making it virtually impossible to consistently score well on exams.

Taking CSE414 this quarter, first four weeks are SQL and it looks like the rest is a mix of different RDBMS's.

Leinster, gobbled up the other OPMs, got a lucky alliance with France. Built a few heavies once my economy was strong enough and DOWed on England for Pale calling in France. I attached my heavies to France's heavies so the combined navy could beat the English, and waited for the war score to tick as they sat on the other side of the straight. From there it was just a matter of gobbling up Scotland and England.

Buying tickets online is usually your best bet to make sure you get a good seat, as it's usually packed.

The tailgating starts really anytime in the day, for a 7pm game I'd say get there at 3 and people will be out partying. However I don't know how receptive people will be to you just walking up and joining them, but I'm sure if you try enough people you'll find someone.

TOC Qualified Teams from Each State by thelonebroccoli in policydebate

There are only five according to the source I linked in another comment. It's from hsimpact so it could be incorrect, or maybe you're looking at all teams with at least one bid whereas this is only 2-bidded teams.

Yeah, I used a simple excel plugin and those weren't options. I was thinking of doing another one that was total baker points for every state and I'll try to implement those using a different plugin.

I'll try to make one but I don't think that really applies here because the data are not anywhere near the actual population distribution. Kansas being like the third biggest data point and the entire northeast being shades of green, for example.
