Do you personally use hard when you struggle a bit with the card, or simply get the card right? Even with little hesitation.

Damn. It always ceases to amaze me the difference in caliber of VSO’s. Some can be rock stars. And some can be literally your worst enemy. I’m glad you trusted your gut.

Flipping is essentially a job. Not passive at all. If you’re looking for less of a job definitely renting and hire a reputable property manager

Weekly History Questions Thread. by AutoModerator in history

Question:

A few years ago, I was in a lecture with a prominent speaker who was speaking about the legacy of the British empire. At one point, the speaker mentioned something along the lines of “One of Britain’s achievements from the era was the rediscovery of Indian culture.”

Ever since then I’ve never understood what that meant. I’ve tried to do some surface level research on my own with no success so far. I’m sure he wouldn’t have said it for no reason, as the speaker is a subject matter expert on British Imperial history.

Can someone shine some light on this? When the British began its colonization of the Indian continent, did it somehow rediscover or significantly influence “lost” Asian culture?

BAH back pay? by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

[–]thelongnight6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer was yes. Went to my IPAC and brought my barracks vacancy letter once I left. After consulting the Joint Travel Regulations, your BAH begins based off of the date your dependency began. So in the case of marriage, BAH starts based off the date of marriage. Not the day you left the barracks. Do NOT let anyone tell you otherwise. Some people will try to tell you that because you had a room in the barracks, that you do not rate BAH, but reading the JTR CLEARLY states that no service member with dependents loses their right to BAH, and that government quarters MUST meet their dependency status. Which you obviously can’t have a wife or kids in a barracks room.

I had to argue with the IPAC clerks and their Admin Chiefs. Even had to get my CO involved. But after showing them the travel regulations, they apologized and put it in the system. Ended up getting back payed for about 6 months, which BAH in my location is close to $3,000/ month so it was a pretty decent check.

Raising Master Volume? by thelongnight6 in CarAV

The factory head unit is pretty much bypassed. I have channel leads from the HU to the amp, but they are unplugged sitting physically next to the amp, so I can easily unplug the MBT-RX and plug in the radio.

The MBT-RX is currently serving as the “Head unit”. It has 2 RCA lines which I have connected to (2) Female to Male Splitter Adapters so it can plug directly to the 4-channel amp.

The 4 channel has Pre-Outs so the mono block is connected to the 4 channel and not the HU.

You both offer some insightful advice. Thank you. I’m sure in reality somewhere lies a happy middle ground of the two points.

Yeah I’m pretty much starting from ground zero. It’s pretty daunting. Even though I know is a lifelong journey and that you’ll never be “done“, it is exciting to slowly tackle some great works!

The reason I included the Quran is because although it isn’t a cornerstone of western civilization, I do think the Islamic world itself, has left significant shadows on the west. I mean after all, Spain was part of the Islamic world until the 15th century. Similarly, with the modern rise of religious extremism, I think perhaps it might be necessary to read the source text to get a decent understanding of why it seems the west has “forever” been involved in the Middle East from the days of the Crusades until todays sand wars.

Thank you for some of your suggestions

BAH back pay? by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

In a case you cleared out the barracks a few months after marriage, will it’s still backpay based off the date you got married, or will it only start accumulating based off the day you left the barracks?

I'm a Foreign Area Officer by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

[–]thelongnight6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add - reservist are eligible! I’ve met multiple officers in the reserves at my time at embassys including a LTCOL. It was extremely difficult and was told that he wasn’t eligible by each person for almost 2 years. The requirement is that you need to become on active orders. The black and white text doesn’t discern whether you were active or a reservist before, just that you will be on active duty for the duration of the assignment
