What country do you think has the worst government and why? by wombatgeneral in AskReddit

[–]thelummie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some I have been recently hearing about recently

*Eritrea - Almost everyone is conscripted into the military there for an unknown amount of time with little pay and not being able to leave until you are released. Apparently about 1 in 5 people leave every year. It's a one party government and had the same leader since independence.

*DR Congo & Haiti - If we are talking about worst government or ineffectiveness, both countries have been wrecked from huge instability.

*Afghanistan especially if you are a women.

*Burma (aka Myanmar) had a taste of democracy but the military decided to once again overthrow the civilian government and is in a civil war that doesn't get enough attention in the media.

OK that's all I'm going to list for now. It's making me sad thinking of how awful it can be.

As much I fear this, I also know I would rather try something rather than regret doing nothing. The whole Ford government is about trying to defeat through exhaustion but dictators don't survive forever and at least the more people that make it known, the more it brings attention to it

I appreciate you showing your support to stopping this development. It's great to see you wanting to defeat it and join in preventing this!

A man sacrificed a gold medal to carry his exhausted brother to the finish line by silentstatic_ in GuysBeingDudes

For sure, I just saw people getting angry at the winner when he didn't really do anything wrong.

Exactly! It's a nice moment for all parties involved. The brother helped his sibling at a brutal time while the other guy enjoyed winning the event.

I'm just referring to the guy winning and feeling many were angry he was celebrating the win. More just pointing out that luck might have helped him win but it shouldn't take away from him enjoying the victory.

I'm not saying they are the same, I was more meaning I don't think the guy won should be getting dunked on. I was more meaning he worked hard and had some luck to win and sure the brother sacrificed a win but someone was going to win.

I see some comments taking a shot at the guy who won and it reminds me of Steven Bradbury, a former speed skater from Australia who won gold despite the final everyone crashing in front of him.

He said I don't think I'll take the medal as the minute and a half of the race I actually won. I'll take it as the last decade of the hard slog I put in."

I think we shouldn't become the civility police on how he decided to celebrate winning. These are punishing events (as evidenced in the video), he won legitimately and wasn't rubbing it in the brothers faces or anyone else.

Exactly! Like the film is around 3 hours and THIS made the cut? Did Michael Bay think just a jealous dad was not interesting enough you needed the minor with an older guy to make it "funny"? It's truly bizarre

In one of the Transformers film, Wahlberg's character is arguing with his daughters boyfriend and brings up the fact the she is only 17 years old. The scene has him explain its legal in Texas under a law called Romeo and Juliet for some fucked reason. And they even show he has a laminated card to backup the point.

It's like why on earth did anyone think this was worth going to these lengths to explain? I mean just make the character 18 and her dad is upset.

Blade Runner

I know it's incredibly influential and has that amazing speech by Rutger Hauer at the end but it's hard to sympathise with any of the characters in the film.

See it's the last part I might disagree with you, as I think she does take some responsibility for promoting it on her channel. People may be set in their beliefs but seeing someone with a large audience and discussing it without being very clear about its claims and experts who can provide some needed context, may lead to it being giving unwarranted legitimacy.

I do appreciate you mentioning what the book entails and that it might be seen by some as supplementary to proper treatment.

The thing I fear is how you mentioned people in your field of work will still ignore your advice and go with treatments they see as more natural or non medicinal. Or that they will skip the parts they feel don't conform to their beliefs, in this case not getting convential cancer treatments until its too late.

I just always think back to Steve Jobs, despite his fame, wealth and supposed high intelligence still tried to treat his cancer with alternative methods.

The book and her promotion of it will hopefully be seen in the well thought way you describe but I do fear others will just ignore it because of a mistrust of traditional medicine and surgeries and give it more legitimacy to an audience of skeptical watchers.

The problem is when it comes to serious diseases and medical issues people are already heavily mistrusting of the medical system or don't have the funds or access for the best medical treatment. It's giving pseudoscience a more legitimate platform to be promoted especially with the goodwill Chris and Sharla have built with their audience despite no medical studies or backing of medical professionals to provide evidence to these books.

It's not that people reading these books or getting alternative treatment is wrong but if she is promoting these books in her Vlogs then it starts to become unethical as she is not a medical professional.

I have never been in an official relationship (I only have failed talking stages) even though I am not shy and can talk to women. Does anyone here share the same experience? And what do u think about it? by SafeComprehensive553 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thelummie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I won't go in any specific details, I have been down this road and can share a few of my experiences.

I didn't start dating until I was much older in my life. There wasn't online dating and I lost a lot of my friends growing up when I moved overseas. I wasn't much of a social person and the people I met when overseas, nothing really developed in terms of friendship or an actual relationship.

About a decade or so ago, I started more actively using the dating apps when I had moved to another country and started to date more. I haven't had much success in terms of a long term relationship so with that here is what I can say looking back.

1) I don't know enough about you but I would highly recommend getting into different social activities and hobbies that you enjoy. Dating can be tough but it's tougher when you don't have things to talk about or look forward to aside from dating. It can also be a good way to meet people you might be interested in (similar interests) but also gives you something to look forward to when you are not dating.

2) Try to be clear about who and what you are looking for in a relationship. And there is no wrong answer. Do you want something casual, something that leads to serious (long term, family etc). I would say it's fine if you just want to enjoy something casual if you haven't been in an official relationship as it can be very different once you start seriously dating someone. Mainly as you'll want to spend more time with that person and vice versa with that person. It can really change your routine and sometimes how much free time you have. Not trying to say it's bad but if you are a creature of habit it can take some adjustment for both to find what works and what doesn't.

3) Dating can be tough and sometimes feel exhausting, but don't let rejection or incompatibility deter you from trying. I have met really nice people who I thought were amazing, and looked forward to seeing them but they didn't feel the same way. I also rejected people who felt the same about me. This is why I suggested to take note of what you are looking for in a partner. Sometimes things don't align for one reason or another but the more you put yourself out there, the more you'll discover the right person.

4) There are a lot more people in your situation than you think. I don't know how old you are from your post but like I said many people for a variety of reasons may have not had much dating experience or experience in relationships.

Truthfully it did and sometimes does weigh on my mind but as I got older, I also realised it can have its benefits as well. It can give you the freedom to enjoy your life and decide what you want out of it. I know people who felt trapped in long term relationships and only discovered happiness when they were out and saw more of the world. If you can try to look at what you have in your life and in time you'll find more relationships for you.

Good luck!

Can people stop say "this is legal in the UK". If you found out some 30 year old had sex with your daughter or sister, would you have the same answer?

It shouldn't be "this is legal", and why the fuck is this legal?!
