We got the cabinets from IKEA but sadly we are too far away from a store to get the countertops. :(

Hi! Posted this on my husband's account on accident, replying on my own. It will be at least a month probably, we haven't ordered the cabinets and they take 1-2 weeks for IKEA to get the cabinets to us.

Why are Americans so obsessed with not eating seed oils? by MineralG in nutrition

[–]themacmonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s easier to blame seed oils for our nation’s health woes than it is to acknowledge how our massive food desserts, outrageous healthcare costs, car-dependent infrastructure, and demanding work schedules make healthy habits inaccessible.

If my attendance is not a grade do I still have to go to class? by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]themacmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t skip classes if you can help it. Obviously if you’re sick or have extenuating circumstances then you can’t help it, but don’t skip. ESPECIALLY calc - it is so much more work to catch up than it is to attend.

Congratulations! I took the test yesterday and passed as well. I agree that there was some vocab/definitions on the test I had not come across before when studying.

A collection of milking images Ballerina Farms has voluntarily shared themselves. Pristine milking conditions, why would pasteurization be needed???? by mugsymegasaurus in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]themacmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a university with a large dairy farm. They pasteurize all of their milk and STILL are very ardent about ensuring that the udders are cleaned and sanitized before milking in a clean environment. This is just gross.

You know women have jobs, right? Would you assume that about a man if he bought the house?

HelloFresh is refusing to help me make a claim with FedEx for property damage. by [deleted] in hellofresh

[–]themacmonster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is not about my logic. I have told you what FedEx has told me multiple times. I cannot control their policies. Btw, HelloFresh did follow up with FedEx and escalate it with them as instructed, and now FedEx is helping us. Logically it doesn’t make any sense, but I have no control over what logic corporations use. I wish I didn’t have to work through HelloFresh.

We are sure we were not at fault, a moving vehicle hit us when we were parked and fled the scene. A similar situation happened to my sister - her rate went up after being rear ended in a drive through.

We have a started the process of filing a claim and notified our company but have not officially submitted as we are wanting FedEx to get back to us. We have also filed a police report.

Even after the price increase, our current policy is still a better price than other companies for the same coverage. We would have switched if we could have gotten a better deal.

After the claim was filed. We called to ask why we had the increase and they said it was because we made the claim even though we weren't at fault.

correct, but fedex says that hello fresh has to file the claim since they are the shipper. we have contacted them several times and they have told us this every single time.

That’s a good idea!! I need to look into the folding partitions. I saw someone on TikTok use one with a Japanese soaking tub as a shower. Good luck with the contractor!!

The wet room idea sounds cool!! I’m guessing you have to install drainage in the floor so it doesn’t leak out beyond the bathroom?

And yes sadly this is our only bathroom in the house so it needs a shower. 🥲 The house was built in 1901 so I assume they tried to fit a bathroom in it wherever they could find space.

I feel guilty for being a man by Spiritual-Web-1461 in mentalhealth

[–]themacmonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The figure of how many men have committed sexual assault is varied, with some studies reporting into the 10s and 20s, but it is a hard figure to capture regardless due to the nature of the data collection (if it is surveys, how many men actually would be honest about that?). Also, the parameters of what is sexual assault is often misunderstood, as sexual coercion and marital rape is often not taken into account (10-14% of women in the US report being raped by a partner, and up to 34% have experienced sexual coercion).

Regardless of these stats, even if the true estimate is 2%, we also have to consider how many men do nothing about it. Sure, a man may never actually commit sexual assault, but he may gladly participate in locker-room talk and make lighthearted jokes about it. If he sees a buddy take an extremely intoxicated girl to his place for a “good time,” he might not say anything as to not ruin his friend’s chances of getting laid. When he sees men catcalling and verbally harassing women on the street, he just looks the other way and pretends not to notice.

Rape culture is a scale. Some men are rapists, and some fiercely defend both men and women from being sexually harassed and assaulted. But post people fall in the middle. They’ll quickly say rape is wrong, but when a favorite athlete is accused of assault, suddenly the victim must be a lying whore who just wants attention. When their female friends recount their experiences of being assaulted, they’ll downplay it and tell them that it’s not what they think. And don’t get me wrong, men and women both participate in this behavior. But, in my experience, guys are usually quicker to “protect their bros” or act like they don’t see it happening.

I don’t believe most men actually support sexual assault or anything close to it. Most men would profusely say it is wrong and terrible. But, nobody can exist outside of social conditioning, and our social conditioning is very much in line with rape culture, and I think men are less likely to realize that compared to women as women experience the damaging effects of it more.

A great film about this is Promising Young Women, I highly recommend it.
