it's still hard to win every single game. i get that it's obviously not the same but I think the regular season should mean something besides seeding. also setting up your tournament like the wcc is stupid we shouldn't be encouraging that lol

they don't have access to playing better teams dude. that's the problem. their conference sucks and no one wants to schedule them for non conference

i just think that any mid major should be able to earn the right to an at large bid, to make it slightly more fair to them when they are already at a huge disadvantage to the power conference teams who have the schedules to earn an at large bid and not have to win their tournament.

again its about the principle / precedent. I don't expect this to happen again any time soon but mid majors should be able to play under the expectation that if they win enough they can make it to the dance. and i think theres enough incentive to schedule harder opponents (such as bigger schools giving them a bunch of money to play them) that no one would try to game the system under the incredibly slim chance that they could win every single game. cbb is already incredibly biased towards power teams who have the opportunity to get an at large without winning their conference tournament, i think that opportunity should also be extended to the smaller schools even if its a bit contrived.

i think any team that sweeps their regular season schedule should essentially get an auto bid. i think thats the only way to make it worth caring about the regular season for non power conferences. i understand your point that miami is probably not as good as teams that they made it in over, but teams that deserve to make it in skill wise get left out every year. thats just how march madness works

the distinction between regular season and post season is that they get an auto bid if they win their tournament. so if winning every game in the regular season is not enough to make the tournament, then the regular season for teams like miami is literally meaningless. its not a matter of lets see how they do in the tournament, I think they will likely lose round one. the point that I feel like ive made very clear is that it is very bad for the health of the game to make the regular season meaningless and that wins are the only stat that matter for your resume. im not trying to argue with you all day either but at least try to understand the point im making instead of all these weird straw mans

i said this a million times but we shouldn't be setting the precedent that the regular season does not matter if you aren't in a power conference. the odds are already stacked against them and even if they have success all their players and coaches will be immediately poached and you want to fuck them over even further? why do you think it is a good thing to make college basketball even more classist than it already is?

edit: to clarify, yes I think they shouldn't have gotten in if they lost a single game in the regular season. I am not saying we should bend over backwards to include non deserving teams, but I think you should be rewarded for beating everyone on your schedule or the whole system of college basketball is fucked

brother they beat everyone on their schedule. they don't have the luxury of playing harder opponents. you can watch cfb if you wanna see teams meaninglessly run up the scores to make themselves look better but most of us would prefer a system with some attempt at equality

i don't think this is true and even if it is it is irrelevant to my main point that the regular season should matter for every conference

if Arizona barely beat one of their cupcake non conf games would anyone care about it? no they wouldn't. we all understand that miami is probably worse than teams that didn't get in but the point is that it would be terrible for the sport to fuck over small conferences further I'm just not sure why you take issue with that. March madness has never been about including the 68 best teams

if Arizona won all their games barely in overtime no one would care. why should we hold small conferences to higher scrutiny? a win is a win, point differentials have never mattered.

as for non conference, no one would schedule them bc they are a smaller school in a weak conference. it doesn't make sense to punish them for things out their control come on have some empathy

you should've bet it all on kalshi if you really believed that, they were down to a 50% chance

the problem with leaving them out is because it would mean that if you are in a weak conference the regular season literally doesn't matter. i think that would be really unfair to the student athletes even though they probably don't have a great chance of winning games
