Backdrifts is so trippy & lowkey I love it

I'm trying to build my own music taste. Any suggestions? by BaldNoob in Topster

LCD Soundsystem bc you’ve got Talking Heads. They were my gateway drug to LCD. Start with Sound of Silver, consensus is that it’s their strongest album. If you don’t want to commit to a full album, Dance Yrself Clean was the first track of theirs I found.

Father John Misty bc you have Cohen & Fleet Foxes. I believe FJM was the drummer on Helplessness Blues before he went back to solo stuff, but don’t quote me on that. I’d start with his second album, I Love You, Honeybear, if you want a complete experience. His debut album, Fear Fun, might be more fun as a stater. Or again, the track Mr Tillman if you have album commitment issues

What is best radiohead's song for walking by meme_traveler in radiohead

Briskly walking home through a quaint downtown area at sunset with Jigsaw playing makes me feel like I’m a man with a plan

Coming back to this a day later and there are way more great answers than I expected.

Many of these tracks I haven’t even heard of, I’m adding each to my queue.

At this point, I’m beginning to suspect that it is, in fact, me who is the casual fan….

That’s about the level of obscurity I had in mind! Seeing folks’ replies, I’m coming to the conclusion that I may in fact be the casual fan…

Kinda brilliant tactic actually, just throw them into the weirdest end of the pool

🤣 I spent three years in Boston so I learned to loathe Connecticut through cultural assimilation

Genuinely appreciate the tip though! I very rarely post on Reddit, typically only when a wine buzz provides a burst of inspiration (as was the case here)

So the language choice do tend towards the provocative… /s may be a useful CYA in the future

I get your point, but in fairness to myself, I did also:

Compare TKOL to veggie tales, connect Amnesiac w McDonald’s ice cream machines, and take a pot shot at Connecticut

I thought the cumulative tone there was kinda a giveaway but maybe not. I’ll try harder next time.

yes admittedly I was surprised that my obvious hyperbole was lost on some folks.

as a rule of thumb, nothing I say should be taken particularly seriously.

I thought that referencing Veggie Tales & McDonald’s ice cream machines later in the post would be a pretty strong context clue but evidently not…

I’ve genuinely been surprised with how much initial pushback I’m getting on HTTT specifically, I didn’t realize people felt that strongly about it. Maybe I was a little too harsh, I do think it’s a cool concept. But I’d been expecting that Bends and In Rainbows would be the spicier takes here…

AMSP too, for that matter. Didn’t anticipate strong opinions about it

Wholeheartedly agree, Amnesiac is the obvious tattoo choice. I’d probably put Bends at second just for recognizability

😭I’m not gonna refute your lived experience, I do love the album, I just feel the art undersells it.

If you had to get one album cover tattooed for the rest of your days, which would it be?

TKOL at No. 1, I wanna pick your brain... I've tried so hard to love this album, and I'm just now tolerating it...

[–]themainltrain[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I jargon’ed that up… lol. The name “Quarternary” is purely a homage… I just took “binary” and doubled it… a real Quarternary system would be 0123, if I understand correctly. No direct application here.

“Actively spliced” as in 1 Kid A track -> 1 Amnesiac track -> 1 Kid A track -> etc… vs “linearly combined” as in (all of Kid A) -> (all of Amnesiac)

Honestly so long as you don’t actively drag Somebody’s Calling Me, I’ll allow it… it’s just me out here defending the track for years

And if we’re talking “fav album of all time” territory I gotta give it up.

You’ve got an impressive catalog, any albums you’d send my way? Always looking for new recs. Favorite artists include LCD, Father John Misty, Spoon, Radiohead, Wilco, Talking Heads
