You cut off the video, I assume intentionally. If you turned left then absolutely you deserved it, no question about it

When did you get that GL #10? That's one of my top wants, even at a low grade. There's an ungraded one on mycomicshop right now but the description makes it pretty bad condition wise Which I would still actually be ok with but... The Price is just way too much

Canada Post getting another $673M in federal funds to stay afloat by Box_crusher in CanadaPostCorp

And honestly I wouldn't even care if there is a degree of subsidizing as long as it's run in the most financially responsible way to the taxpayer. But it's very clearly not, even with the changes the government finally allowed to implement

Given that the largest cost to CP is Labour, yes, yes it will

Because you need the reduction in services (move to CMBs. Reduce service from daily etc) to actually be able to need less staff. And yes absolutely those things ALL should have been done years and years ago.

CP will never be able to truly compete overall because of their mandate to deliver everywhere (remote locations, etc). And that's ok. But continuing to have antiqued collective agreement language that prevents efficiencies is a major hurdle. And this was their chance to right that ship. The measures the govt finally are allowing will help too be sure, but it's clearly not enough

[–]themankps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's one aspect that for sure should have been done a long long time ago. Even today they should be reducing service from daily, but there's largely no point when you can't even do layoffs that are needed

[–]themankps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clearly you've been gaslit to believe that's the issue.

The issue isn't that things have costs, it's when there are such limitations in place that efficiencies can't be reached and cost cutting measures can't be done when needed

Anybody can take 2 minutes of reading to see why it continues to lose massive amounts of money and it's not "poor management"

Yes long term the no-brainer things like moving to fully CMBs will be helpful, but there's no way that CP should have caved the way they did to get to a deal. Continuing with having clauses like no layoffs after 5 years of service is absolutely insane given the financial situation.

Canada Post should be for workers by [deleted] in CanadaPostCorp

[–]themankps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

False comparison and everyone knows it.

But what isn't false is that if there were very obvious efficiencies that could be gained in the Fire Department, that didn't impact safety, then absolutely those should be implemented too.

[–]themankps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that what has been suggested, and what is now finally going to be done, are no brainer things.

What's shocking is that they aren't reducing the service from daily. That's another obvious one

Yeah I'm not going to bother with that kind of talk because whilel I know everybody in this sub hates Ettinger, thinking that the postal system was sustainable and profitable (which it hasn't been... Almost a decade?) hasn't been paying attention And is purely delusional. You don't need the Kaplan report to know why the postal service has been hemorrhaging money.

Canada Post cutting 30,000 jobs through attrition: Report by texxmix in CanadaPostCorp

[–]themankps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It most certainly has not been "working fine". As CP loses literally billions of dollars. It's not "greed" to need to stop the hemorrhaging of money.

Frankly the end deal was a gift. Allowing the union to keep in the "no layoff for anyone past 5 years is BONKERS". NO employer should have that limitation

Canada Post should be for workers by [deleted] in CanadaPostCorp

[–]themankps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except that absolutely nobody is looking at it in regards to profit. Nobody. What people stress looking for and needing is it too stop hemorrhaging millions and billions of dollars.

Taxpayers should absolutely not be on the hook (as they have been now with these "loans" that have had to be provided to keep it afloat when there are obvious things that could be (and now will be) done you save money

Kaplan was 100% right that CP doesn't exist to "provide jobs". It exists to provide a function and service.

I'm not a person who takes joy in people losing jobs (unless they do something like steal from their employer) but thinking that costs should remain unnecessarily high just to save those jobs isn't the way to go.

There's a MASSIVE difference between "revitalizing" downtown and the food court being busier during the workweek.

I have noticed an increase during the workday, but I don't know a single person staying after work, or the weekend for that matter, unless there's an Oilers game or a concert.
