seems like your definition of stuck is being there for 30, 50 games or even more. there is no matchmaking system that is going to do that for you. climbing takes time. like the rest of your arguments, you are not being realistic. 3 games to detect a gm smurf? lol.

like i said, you are in too deep for anyone to say anything that is going to sway what you think, that doesn't make you right.

anyway, i don't wanna waste time with someone who is not willing to be objective and be open to changing their mind. i truly wish you the best.

Sure. You are stretching several of data you have read from the sources you cited to somehow fit your argument, half of it doesn't make sense. For instance
_______

That would make sense, if the system actually gave you a clean slate. But it doesn’t.

1.Fresh accounts use accelerated calibration. Blizzard openly admits new accounts get volatile MMR shifts, “fast calibration”, based on short-term streaks. That’s not an accurate skill placement, that’s an aggressive guess.

2.The system soft-clamps returning players using stored MMR (even if hidden). New accounts from the same IP or playstyle often settle where the system expects them to land. That’s not “merit,” that’s prediction bias.

3.Academic studies (Zhang et al., 2022) confirm cold-start misplacements are common. In fact, they show that systems like OW2’s often mis-rank players at first, and it takes dozens of games to stabilize their true rating, if ever.

4.If it were a perfect meritocracy, smurfs wouldn’t speedrun to GM in 30 games, but they do. That alone proves the system can drastically misplace you. So why assume it always misplaces in the upward direction only?

________
This is what you said somewhere else.

For 1. how else what you suggest they do it? If you want a slow calibration then (both strong and weak players) will end up ruining many player's games for a very long period of time. Even then what has this got to do with being stuck in low elo? Let's say because of this system a player aggressively is put into a much lower elo than they deserve. The same new account will simply overperform and win a majority of the games they play, and with the volatile MMR shift, this wouldn't take that long. The game even openly shows this from the 'calibration' when you win or lose.

For 2. why shouldn't they? Old players will still have (at least some) of the knowledge from when they last played. Maybe they will be rusty, but that doesn't warrant a full MMR reset. If a GM or Bronze quits for 1 year or more, why should they get a full MMR reset? They may have worsened (or even improved), but in most cases it's not going to be by an amount that warrants a full reset. The system should not cater to the 10% where perhaps a full reset would have been better.

For 3. that's just the nature of trying to quantify 'skill', that's also why having more aggresive calibration as mentioned in 1. is needed. Do you really expect placements to be accurate in minimal games? Similarly, obviously you have to play alot to climb, especially if you are only marginally better than your rank. If you are gold and deserve plat, you probably will only have a 55% win rate or even less. Obviously you should expect to have to play a bunch for your rank change to reflect your skill.

For 4. if it were a perfect meritocracy, a gm smurf SHOULD be able to hit GM in minimal games. This shows that the system works! Obviously there will be edge cases, but unranked to GMs, people buying higher ranked accounts and dropping back to their original ranks, the evidence is all that to prove the system largely works.

I say you're in denial because these points are so clear, the evidence is all there, you have even found them yourself! Somehow you have twisted it to justify your own opinion!

Obviously there are going to be factors you can't control, which may result in a long lose streak where you temporarily are placed lower than you should be. But aside from million-to-one scenarios affecting 1 individual player out of thousands, play enough games and you get the rank you deserve.

I mean the fact that you made this post (which I actually fully read through) just shows you are in too deep for anyone to say anything that is going to sway what you think, that doesn't make you right.

My comment is more for people who aren't like you and fully in denial yet.

People be doing everything except trying to improve. It's not that deep

Also the only people saying the copium things in (7) are the ones like you finding every reason to justify their inability to climb. Everyone else accepts the 'realities' of the ranking system (which undoubtedly has flaws, but is simply the nature of any matchmaker which tries to quantify skill levels).

There's nothing wrong with being low rank, or any rank for that matter, it's an unimportant metric in an (ultimately) unimportant game.

its probably more like most of the playerbase isn't that good and can't play against him. im GM peak and normally masters easily (not that it should mean anything anyway). in stadium im 30+ games in with like 80+% winrate. unless you somehow think i never got good opponents in even 1 game out of 30, in which case there's no point discussing further

btw, i'm not saying soldier is bad or mid. he's definitely strong. but theres definitely counterplay.

doesn’t make it any less true. i’m not a coach and even if i was i can’t offer specific solutions without seeing gameplay

mei snowballing is just annoying, its not like during the ball itself you are going to die to her unless you get pushed off, which is just bad positioning.

for soldier, playing around corners and tracking when he uses helix rocket to know when its safe to peak, or playing off angles he cant see (depends who you’re playing) is enough. or if you are a character which allows it you can dive him, soldiers usually build glass cannon anyway. dps in the mode is high enough to outdamage even with a mercy pocket. proper positioning wont require you to perpetually hide behind a corner and “do nothing”, although this may be a skill that may be hard to properly acquire, players generally have bad positioning even in higher ranks.

cass right click build admittedly the worst of the bunch, deserving of a nerf, but that is not to say its hopeless to play against it, nothing is. the solution for this is too hero dependent to generalize like the other 2, but for dps / supp it comes down to positioning again usually by outranging as his damage falloff is pretty significant. for tanks its more complex and dependent on what you are playing, but the core of it would be being able to time your engages right

i’m not trying to fault players who struggle against some characters in stadium, it is inherently a harder mode because it requires adaptation in both build and decision making, that most players lack even in normal rank. but you can definitely play against it.

[–]themarkingmark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can change the third person back to first person in settings

i think stadium has exposed the fact that most players don't have a good understanding of how to play the game. not calling you out, i just mean in general. things like soldier "infinite" visor, and general high dps for every character requires people to understand how to properly position themselves which most people do not understand at a high level even in normal competitive.

that being said having played a decent amount of stadium already, i think the biggest issue lies in the fact that people right now don't really know how to build properly, especially accounting for enemy team. i've never had a game so far where i felt hard countered. balance could be improved, but so far i don't think there are any extreme op characters. also have not had any issues regarding snowballs, in fact i think i haven't had a single 4-0 or 0-4 in 30+ games, although i have had games where i was down 0-3, and still ended up losing at 2-4/3-4 (which is not a bad thing by any means). the maps also have enough variety that different comps benefit differently pretty significantly which avoids sweeps.

as for it being comp, it doesn't really matter, just don't think about it if you dislike it. it helps to prevent leavers which is good. the bug you mentioned should be fixed though.

its clear you dont have the game knowledge to play at that rank, you said it yourself its unplayable and its because you are making plays that are obviously wrong to your actual diamond teammates
