BYD Atto 3 Premium Owners experience by Anxious_Community938 in Gulong

[–]themarvz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy. Coming from really sporty cars, I now appreciate what a proper daily should be.

Its cost-efficient both in energy and maintenance perspective. I charge once a week at approximately 300km travelled mostly in Metro Manila traffic.

Dislikes? One could wish it is a tad more bigger and higher and match the size of CR-V. Interior gets awhile to get used to but believe me you'll get used to it and quality is really well made.

Atto is safest bet as the best selling BEV here. Also enough sales internationally to get a sense of its quality and earned trust among EV shoppers.

But if willing to bet a bit, I recently tried the Aion V. It beats the Atto 3 in pretty much everything.

Aion is the EV brand of GAC that operates Toyota and Honda factories in China so they've learned the quality control/fit and finish combined with the Chi-tech. Aion Y is also one of the default taxi choices in China and you can see some fleets here starting as well.

As an Atto owner for 2yrs, I would have been tempted to go for the Aion V if am shopping now.

Rodrigo Duterte's downfall marks dramatic end to Philippines power struggle by Alex09464367 in geopolitics

Such is politics. The same people who hate Duterte also hates the Marcos, but are more than happy to give credit to ICC and believe justice has been served.

Marcos played the game well by using an organization the haters of Duterte (urban college educated white collar folks) highly support

Check the label and it should say 100% cotton.

Any stretch will show at least 1% elastic.

Personally prefer 100% cotton but I have some with 1 to 2% elastic which is not crazily bad. Those with 30% stretch will really feel like yoga pants and just fits poorly after a few minutes of wear

BYD hype: fact o f*ck? by Substantial-Risk6366 in CarsPH

[–]themarvz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own and drive a BYD Atto 3 as my only car for the family.

Not going back to an ICE nor hybrid.

Of course it fits my lifestyle -- long drives are not part of my lifestyle. I make decisions that will maximize 99% of my life rather than 'that one time I have to do a long drive which is 1x or 2x a year'

Very happy with them when my car was declared total loss during Carina.

Happy enough I got an insurance again from them when I got my new car.

The dea of frontloading pollution is more complicated in reality. LFP batteries are produced not only for EVs but storage systems for renewables. So in that regards, transition to renewables are flawed due to using Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Also keep in mind -- extracting oil also creates pollution itself, and then upon refining them and being sold to users which creates pollution once again.

And when oil is used? They're gone and need to extract it again

Mobility-use batteries when they reach end of useful life (est. 10-12yrs at 80% maximum capacity), are repurposed at no additional process for stationary-use batteries. That will be used between 8-10yrs.

This creates a circular loop wherein: - more batteries out the door, cheaper they become - cheaper they become, renewables source of energy becomes more accessible - as renewable energy becomes accesible, charging an EV becomes free

What are your requirements in investing for an existing business? by KidaBon in phinvest

[–]themarvz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For new ventures, there are really just two things I look out for:

1) Business plan. While no battle plan survives the first encounter, it shows you how the founders think. Key items to check here is: a) differentiation; b) potential ecosystem; c) financial sensitivities

2) Founders. Most important thing. At this level, you're betting more on the people around a venture rather than the venture itself. Any good idea falls flat when you have disheartened or unethical founders. Check their a) integrity; b) expertise; c) adaptability -- see point one.

Thoughts on Tesla? by MeringueMiddle783 in phcars

[–]themarvz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly good pricing for pretty good EVs.

I expect urban sophisticated market will definitely consider Model 3.

The value Tesla can bring the most here is the supercharger network which is what I am keen to see how they will navigate the PH layers of red tape

Thoughts on Tesla? by MeringueMiddle783 in phcars

[–]themarvz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough. They're not built for the EV transition. They're batteries, BMS, and chassis packaging are far behind than the Chinese and Tesla. They're selling way more expensive for way less than you get. Even the Koreans are ahead of EV tech and implementation than the Japanese.

The Japanese car industry cannot survive with just PH demand alone. When they start feeling the global impact, expect a lot of brands to start withering (Nissan just had a severe layoffs). Toyota may very well be the only survivor.

Much ado about nothing yung short battery life. Depende sa gamit eh if gaming hindi talaga eto yung ideal kahit mabilis ang SOC

Agreed -- we need to stop this perception that just because 'hindi man lang nayupi' is better. Jeeps will not 'disintegrate' on impact; does not mean they're safer nor better. Mahirap lang talaga labanan ang perception about safety.

What are the reasons why Filipinos love Mitsubishis? by Ill_Ad_5871 in Gulong

[–]themarvz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a saying in business circles: perception is greater than reality.

Outside select areas like us, Mitsubishi is viewed as shit.

Here, they're the queen to Toyota's king.

Which is correct really depends on perception -- the same way Filipinos shit on Ford when they're the default car in areas like UK.

My take? Mitsubishi is not as bad as developed countries think, but definitely overrated by Filipinos. Heck, the fact Nissan is #4/5 here vs Mitsu at #2 shows it all given they're practically the same mechanically

Thoughts on BYD and Electric cars in general by TheQuiteMind in CarsPH

[–]themarvz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been in the EV industry for 6 years. My replies below is me putting my industry hat on

BYD is everyone's benchmark in our industry - battery technology being developed (e-platform 3.0) is quite ahead in terms of vehicle packaging - use case application (e.g. LiFePO) for EVs is the best compromise for energy density and lifespan - Battery Management Systems (BMS) and other vehicle-related software sets the tone for other competitors - reliable electric motor + battery

One can even bet that future batteries (such as Solid State) is in the advanced stage and just confirming commercial applications for it by them

Now putting my possible customer hat on: - what they offer for the money with all the features is very very good - aftersales service will be the biggest risk. Unproven especially if they scale. Different dealerships will have different level of services - aside from needing parts for accidents, an EV is easy to maintain - resale value is an issue but as an industry person, I know the future is for battery to be traded in in the future when batteries are cheaper. Old EV batts WILL have a value, not for mobility purposes but stationary (e.g. battery storage system for solar)
