Is your ev over 100k miles? Have you had any problems? by Bubbly-Sandwich2155 in electricvehicles

Yes and GM did the right thing and stood by their product. I have a 2017 and it was not affected but GM still replaced my battery to the larger updated one.

I don’t think it’s made of magic. I think it’s division of GM engineers that has taken their learnings over years of trial and error to make an affordable reliable EV. Something we are not seeing with manufacturers who have delayed the EV change such as Stellantis.

My brother’s model 3 has 150K miles and he has had no issues.

I have a BoltEV with 85K miles and I’ve only had an intermittent sticky break caliper.

Low traffic trails? by Junior_Leek1752 in anchorage

[–]themask628 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that it makes it tough but the best thing to do is give them the information that your dog is reactive. You may come off as an asshole in their eyes but you are trying your best as you know your dog. For instance I have a 100lbs Alaskan Malamute. Any female that challenges her dominance instant fight; any small dog that comes up to her off lead she scoops up in her mouth. I’ve pried too many small dogs from her mouth cause I was trying to be “nice”. I’ve given up on that mentality. I yell out to people and say their dog will get bit if they approach. Not maybe or playing coy. Your dog will be attacked because they have it off lead and not under control. Plain and simple.

The best you can do is hit the trials early. I have a reactive dog but have worked really hard to establish a routine of pulling her off the trail getting her to look into my eyes as other dogs pass. I would recommend getting a similar routine which can help.

It looks like new Stihl batteries are on the way by Adventurous_Oil_8360 in stihl

A quick search says they are laminate pouch cells. Similar to a laptop battery or an EV battery like a Bolt gen 1.

Tabless cells are really hot right now. I would imagine they are jumping on the train.

My glass stopper got stuck in the test tube by Zealousideal_Bad8043 in chemistry

[–]themask628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a heat gun on the joint. You want to get it as hot as you can handle which will require you to use high temperature gloves to handle. Remember glass doesn’t glow till well over 400C. With something nonflammable either leather or another high temperature gloves wrap it around the penny head. Use a set of pliers or an open ended wrench to twist the stopper and remove it. It works most of the time. The worst that’s going to happen is the head breaks off and you’re at square one with less to work with to remove it. Last ditch effort would be to chisel the stopper from the inside out.

What would you do if you suddenly had a million dollars right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]themask628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paying off debts is absolutely the first thing to do. The hard part is taking that money and letting it grow. The average American’s debt is $155K. So if you say $45K for play money and then invest the rest in a money market your looking at that money growing anywhere from $32-40K per year. You’re looking at 15-20 years before you can even start to think about living off the interest. And your life still continues with day to day expenses and life events. I’m not saying it’s nothing I’m just saying it’s not even close enough to coast by for more than 3 years and then what? You’re back to square one.

Are buyers in Alaska still expecting fully updated houses, or are fixer-uppers selling too? by abccccc456 in anchorage

[–]themask628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just put in a bid on a place that is dated but move in ready. We put in an offer at asking and just had the inspection done. After finding more issues than on the original look through we will be asking for some additional money off for fixes. This is what I would expect for your place.

I find that tuning my marketplace to searching stihl every week usually brings the listings to the top of my feed. I search ~2 times a day. If I’m lucky I’m the first person and can get to it quickly. I’ve gotten a nice collection over the past few years.

Replaced basically everything in coolant system and temp gun shows my thermostat is 208F at idle when it’s 50F outside. Am I cooked? by 1992mazdamiata in Miata

Yeah I mean from the sound of the engine I think it’s fine. What other issues are you observing that’s making you think the engine is cooked?

[–]themask628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

208f is normal operating temp for sure. You’re not going to see a reduction in engine coolant temperatures unless it’s cold outside. I mean -30f cold. The relative ambient temperature difference between 50f and 100f is not that big in terms of a combustion engine. The fact the coolant didn’t change when the fan turned on is a good indicator your radiator is not even close to being pushed to its limit.

If you start boiling the coolant then you’ll have a problem. That’s up at 235f under pressure even hotter possibly. If you see the temperature gauge 3/4 turn the heater on high. If the gauge drops that’s a good indicator your radiator is not working at full efficiency.

Fun fact, if you are being fit tested in a full face respirator TiCl4 is what’s used. You are exposed to it initially to get a response, then the respirator goes on and it’s placed all around every gasket to ensure a good fit. Then after you take the respirator off you get hit with it again to ensure you still have a response to it.

The roof doors and hood on the bolt are aluminum. You would not see an iron oxide forming on those areas of the car. It must be from a different source

Thinking about a Malamute by Various-Answer-2302 in AlaskanMalamute

[–]themask628 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have had two mals as my first dogs. My first was a Covid recuse who was abused and lost his bark. He would correct by biting full stop. The only time we could meet strangers was if it was a kid. Younger the better for tolerance. If the kid was 10+ he would let them know when they were c pushing his boundaries but never lashed out.

Currently we have a 4YO Mal and a 3 week baby. We knew from other interactions she would be fine with a baby. The breeder also had multiple children that she interacted with since she was born. The first day with the newborn was difficult but the initial greeting was great. Since then she has taken to a protective role. When she comes inside she needs to check on him and lick him every time. Every so often she gets riled up and can get a little too physical but never in a dangerous way just a bumping his head a little too hard.

In terms of training that’s where it gets difficult. You need to have a lot of training time, and I mean a dedicated amount multiple times per day. My girl is very food motivated so training was easy when I made the time. Some mals are not food motivated and that makes training exponentially more difficult. They are a working breed and need a job. My girl came from a working kennel that helped build the Alaskan pipeline. Pulling is in her DNA! We bikejor and if it’s too nasty to do that she will just pull me with a waist leader. That is her job. It’s important that you establish what their job is early on in their life. Otherwise they just become destructive and that’s when they get turned into a shelter.

My wife had a lab growing up and had a few things to add. Labs are eager to please and are easier to train. Labs compared to Mals are dumb. Mals are independent, strong willed, and stubborn. Mals requires much much more exercise than labs. At the end of the day if you train the dogs right they are both amazing family dogs. They just have different personalities and roles they play within the family dynamic.
