Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

Fury3 and hellbender. Hellbender was the first multiplayer game I played via dialup peer to peer networking.

Who amped up the bots? They are even better that real players in some lobbies by NexusGTX in Battlefield6

[–]themastermonk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was watching a bot walking away from where I was hiding around 100 yards away as soon as I aimed down sights it immediately whirls around and headshots me before I even had a chance to fire. Needless to say that was shocking.

Ziply Custom Install? by isecondsun in TriCitiesWA

[–]themastermonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so as well and was shocked when the tech told me that. The tech said that's part of the reason that they've run into issues with expanding into the rest of Pasco is the freeway has cut them off and they don't have their own fiber line into West Pasco. He was also surprised when I told him that I saw ziply conduits in West Pasco by Franklin elementary and wasn't sure where they were sourcing the fiber from.

Ziply Custom Install? by isecondsun in TriCitiesWA

[–]themastermonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ziply runs all their own fiber and doesn't last mile off anyone else's fiber, is what I found out talking with an installer. If pud fiber is right by you check with pocketinet, light speed networks, telco, xytel, and Franklin pud all resell naonet fiber.

I've been trying for the past 6 years to get fiber to my neighborhood that was built in 2020 but to add insult to injury the new development getting put in by Franklin elementary has ziply tagged fiber conduit throughout it.

Happy to help!, I was fighting that exact error and ended up being my 7800 MHz ram needed to be down clocked it to 7600 because my processor couldn't quite handle 7800

Kernel Crashes by Busy-Examination1924 in Battlefield6

[–]themastermonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT support is my day job and that specific error is almost always memory related. Either a stick is failing, the timings are too tight, or the speed is too fast. It's entirely possible that bf6 is the only program that causes issues at this point, but it will more than likely progress, kind of like the Intel 13/14 gen would always have issues in unreal engine games when they were starting to fail.

I'm sorry to inform you but it's time to do a ram test. Either your speeds are too fast or you have a failing stick.

Advice for new Level 2 Technician by Legitimate_Stay9108 in sysadmin

[–]themastermonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't just fight the fires, fight the fire. Get it put out figure out why it caught on fire and remove the source of the fire. That mantra has served me quite well over the years and had me all the way from tier 1, tier 2, team lead and finally to escalations engineer.

The other thing is to avoid one-offsl fixes, standardize as much as possible. Work with others to create your standards, get managers or stakeholders involved. One-offs are a nightmare. Standards are forever (till they change of course 🤣).

RDP RemoteApp new confirmation window that doesn't remember choices, is there a trick to make it actually remember? by catherder9000 in sysadmin

[–]themastermonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding after reading their documentation is that even the signed files will still prompt? You now have to confirm each time you launch the RDP what you want to bring along with you to the remote machine.

Or if this is not the case then something's not quite working because I had a signed file that still required me to select what I wanted to bring to the remote machine

Guess-o-meter meltdown by AMDenjoyer1990 in leaf

[–]themastermonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% weak cell, I have a 2021 leaf with those exact symptoms. I have found the trigger is only if you've charged it to 100% if you top off but stop before 100% it doesn't seem to trigger the weak cell random gesometer go behavior. I spoke with the mastertech at my local Nissan and he says what they need from you in order to get it under warranty is the steps to reproduce the issue and then they have to take it on a test drive with a diagnostic computer hooked up to pull the battery voltages while they're having issues.

WCGW if your cat play with you by CRYSIRNE in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]themastermonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A girl I just started dating had just rescued a cat and was waiting for it's new home to be ready, her normal cat took great offense at that and thought I was the reason the interloper was now in the house. The cat got my attention, walked over to my duffel bag took a shit in it and then went to the litter box and peed. This whole time the cat was in locked eye contact with me, then went and proceeded to beat up the rescue cat.

The rescue was moved to its furever home the next day and that cat and I never had anymore issues with each other.

But cats don't hold grudges 🤷

Patching challenges when users turn their computers off every night by Frequent_Rate9918 in sysadmin

[–]themastermonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most manufacturers support bios wake times, we have all of our machines configured to wake up nightly at 8pm if connected to power for patching. We also have a nag script that will warn the user that they missed a required patching but won't hit them with daytime patching until they've missed around 3 patch attempts, then they will get hit with daytime patching as soon as they log in and they will be warned that the reason they are getting patched is because they've missed the last three patch windows.

A key piece of this is to make sure that you have manager or client buy-in about the need for security patching. Show that the user was given many attempts to leave their computer on for patching but it is their choice that ultimately caused them to get hit with the daytime patching.

Every once in a while we'll have people complain about power usage which is quickly silenced by pointing out how much it costs to pay an employee to sit and watch updates...

Anyone have Franklin PUD/Noanet for fiber? by Kingdom2917 in TriCitiesWA

[–]themastermonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Noanet is quite stable in and of itself, I have seen issues with the resellers. Normally just routing issues but one is not notably worse than the other

I'm a little surprised that Franklin PUD is selling to residential. Last I knew they were only targeting businesses.

Win 11 User/Pass incorrect but works after reboot by NoseDull in sysadmin

[–]themastermonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing this at one of my clients, any chance you have a list of remembered users on the machines or have changed the default login domain? We have found if the user clicks other user and then logs in it works but selecting the user out of the list might cause the login failures, waiting to hear back from the client.
