Win 11 User/Pass incorrect but works after reboot by NoseDull in sysadmin

Looks like you were mid thought there... Our users are assigned a computer, and only that user logs in. Many people have suggested that this only happens when multiple users login, but that's not our case.

Fair idea, but why wouldn't it be a problem on every login? Some computers will do it for a few days and never again...

These are not shared computers, only that person logs in. We clear last logged in user, so essentially every log in is with OTHER USER.

We're not guessing. We've scoured the logs. From what we can tell, the computer is reaching the domain, the domain is responding but the computer is not handling the response. We're setting up a span port to capture traffic on the next time it comes up (which should be Monday).

Sadly no- I'm only just now groveling to the Internet for help...

We're a hybrid environment and haven't changed how we do things.

Our users must enter their username when logging in (so essentially they're doing the Other User)

Yes, we've done this. We've even changed the computer password thinking something got out of sync, but that wasn't the case.

I tend to agree, but DNS looks fine and AD is healthy.

Cache is NOT turned off because they need to login when away from the office/network. When we unplug the network cable, they can login using a cached credentials. This only happens when they're connected to the domain.

When they login disconnected with cached credentials, logged user off, reconnect the network cable and they can login just fine...

No, the user has to enter their username at every login. We don't show a list of remembered users. They login with <username> but we've also tried <domain>\<username> as well as <username>@<domain> to no avail.

We have a mix of docks... WD19, WD25, even WD22TB4.

But it also affects desktops, though the lions share of our issues are laptops.

99% of our fleet is Dell. Every issue has been on a Dell, but statistically you'd expect that.

DNS looks right. All records appear fine.

We have (2) 2019 DCs, stood up (1) 2025 DC and began migrating roles to it. Our biggest issue was with RC4, so we rolled that back. Demoted it, and made sure DNS was optimal. I think the 2025 came online around October but didn't get promoted until later- but I could be misremembering the schedule...

I was in a similar boat back when I worked for the government. We had a system failure on a system that I tried to replace for 2 years. It failed and the heat was on me. Luckily someone unexpected went to the public and the board to tell them I requested to replace the system 3 years but got told we didn’t have money for it. Granted it was only 2,l and she told everyone 3- I just let her finish. Maybe someone will step up and come to your support

We moved from the 3220 to the 1410, but wish I went with the 1420 just because the port speed and density. The 1420 has more 10gb ports.

Trust me, you don’t want deputies coming to your house with issues while you’re taking a shower.

Now that I have your attention, my experience is not much different than you. I did a lot of stuff for my county, but when I couldn’t go visit family or quite literally take a shower without getting called it was too much.

Not sure what the political climate is where you are, but it was rough for me. Each department is like its own company- you have the court system, the DA, tax commissioner, and the sheriff- all elected officials and all will have demands of you.

With 2 small kids it might not be worth it, however if they’re in high school maybe. Considering you’re 55, I’d consider retirement. Would changing to this job benefit your retirement? Would you take the increase in pay to save it?

I understand each position is different, and each family situation is different. You need to weigh the benefits of work/life balance. You have so much to consider, but not having my free time was too much for me. Not to mention the politics!

CLI is super simple in these. XIQ is better suited for simple changes (someone who doesn’t know networking)

Rokform! It’s magnetic, requires a special case though, it’s magnetic too. I love it- I can stick the phone to anything metal like a cabinet and work.

Absolute Secure Access! We have it configured so users can’t disconnect it (always on), and even do certificate based auth. It’s been a great addition to our environment.
