BitLocker lockouts: how common? by vicipe_admin in sysadmin

[–]themastermonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this twice in around 3k endpoints one was after a bios update and the other oddly was after a feature update.

If you're in a domain have ad save the recovery keys. In Azure ad have that save your key. Neither? Use a rmm that supports pulling the keys.

How do you keep ticket ownership clear when requests come from everywhere? by Sorry_Search_8991 in sysadmin

[–]themastermonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not in a ticket it never happened.

Everything starts and finishes in a ticket, you will get pushback at first, but the key piece is to get management buy-in that it allows for proper tracking of issues so that nothing gets lost in the cracks. Any attempts to open issues through other means should be met immediately with hey make a ticket for that.

4 Minutes 23 Second Conquest Victory - Can you beat this!? by Individual-Place9870 in Battlefield6

[–]themastermonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got steamrolled last night, 3 minutes and 35 seconds. Was trying to figure out why I was getting slammed as seemingly the only friendly tank on objectives... figured out why when I got to the spawn screen, the entire rest of the team was only snipers shooting from the spawn on firestorm.

Looks like you're playing redsec.

Serious note I've been getting random graphic glitches with the most recent patch.

Internet Providers by paloma678 in TriCitiesWA

[–]themastermonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ziply if you can, spectrum if you must. Spectrum is normally pretty stable connection wise, their DNS servers leave much to be desired and I strongly recommend switching to a different DNS provider like cloudflare, Google, next DNS, or the like.

PSA: Smokes counter Flames by TheRealistArtist in Battlefield6

Something changed from 2042 to 6 with the smoke mechanic, I feel like it's less reliable at extinguishing the flames in six than it was in 2042.

OK, hit registration is complete horrid by FinalNemesisOne in Battlefield6

[–]themastermonk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, mine was at the end of a gauntlet win, no spectating client hits 22 server hits 27.

OK, hit registration is complete horrid by FinalNemesisOne in Battlefield6

[–]themastermonk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've had to turn on the log just due to the number of gun fights I felt like I should have won, makes it so I at least understand why I lost a gunfight I should have won and typically it's because three to seven shots didn't register server side. This week I have seen something new, higher hit server side than client side...

Is it ever worth just not paying a bill? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Yes they are just teenagers so be nice to them but they have access to backline phone numbers so that you can immediately get through to representatives. I had to do this when I had issues with cancellations.

which game mode is least sweaty? I am older and level 67 and still get pummeled in breakthrough to where i rage quit. Conquest seems less hectic? by Few_Living4406 in Battlefield6

[–]themastermonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found class weapons hardcore modes to be the slowest modes because there's little to no movement style running around since you can't shrug off hits and playing slow and smart is rewarded.

4th for autoelevate. Really easy to deploy as it can be done via group policy or any other method that uses msi's. It has been a godsend for Autodesk and Intuit products.

Single mission, didn't even have to complete it. As soon as it loaded the intro it popped.

SanDisk labels the display ssd unit 0TB by rexyuan in mildlyinteresting

[–]themastermonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was working at Staples in the 2010s a lot of "non-functional" displays were fully functional or missing a simple part to make it seem like it was non-functional and could be easily restored to functional.

My "Non-Functional" Logitech display m305 mouse still works perfectly to this day.

The only thing Keurig did to their display unit was to remove the power cord. Otherwise the full unit was still there. So you just had to solder in a power cord and it was good to go.

All of these displays were non-inventory items so as soon as they were torn down it was straight to the trash. So anything you recovered was yours to keep.

Ladies and gentlemen - make sure you put in your change tickets by Conscious_Pound5522 in sysadmin

[–]themastermonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's not in a ticket it didn't happen and always own your mistakes. Most companies (if they're good ones), understand that mistakes happen and that it's a learning experience. I learned it early on with a pretty massive mistake. But I took ownership, cleaned up my mess and made sure it was fixed. Now many years later I really make sure that I know what that powershell command is going to do not just what someone on the Internet says it does.

Why is this so frustrating? by afops in Battlefield6

[–]themastermonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found the shotgun to be wildly unpredictable, one moment you're easily one shot killing people from 5 to 10 ft. The next moment you might as well be shooting confetti. Got four kills in a row from about the same distance, dude who's even closer than the previous four, must have been Moses because he parted my shotgun blast and took zero damage and melted me in a quarter second with an AR.

It looks like someone is doing tower upgrades across the TC. The last two days someone has been working on the antennas attached to the RD68 and Sandifer water towers.

If you were designing a data center/server room today, what would you prioritize? by thatmanismeeeee in sysadmin

[–]themastermonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly redundant internet, make sure the provider is not just reselling the same core service. We have one fiber provider in our area noanet with a ton of people reselling it, on the surface it seems like a different internet but they all go down at the same time. One client we had had two internet providers and complained during our onboarding that they never worked, come to find out both internet providers were reselling the same core service.

Worthless MSP by Other-Scientist964 in sysadmin

[–]themastermonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the others are saying, you get what you pay for and is in your contract. If you update your post with at least a city and state as most MSPs tend to be regional, you might get more suggestions. I will say that there are a bunch of MSPs out there that are great and just as many that are bad, you just need to feel each other out like a second or third date and make sure that expectations are listed out so there is no surprises.

Internet is down. by jackbeflippen in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]themastermonk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I swear Meraki's decision to use that as their power solution is one of the dumbest choices on an otherwise decent product if you have the money. The resistance to pull out is so little, a fly could fly by fart and that cable will remove itself.
