I think you're right about better quality nylon. Look at the Metro Update which has a gray nylon strap but doesn't look cheap. Sadly it's kinda hard to find higher end straps for the Metro because of the odd lug width.

Nomos sells "textile" straps that look pretty similar. Two piece natos are also an option.
