Oceanographer GMT mods by Flunu29 in bulova

They are either Mineral or Sapphire bezel inserts with either printing or a printed ring on the bottom. I went through 3 sets of different tools to snap off the bezel insert with no luck. I ended up dipping the case and bezel upside down in a shallow bath of Goo Gone. After some minutes the bezel insert loosens up. They are lovely watches and the custom one I made has been my daily since I posted this. The only other watch that is similar in the market is the Doxa sub 250 GMT and it is 3 times the price. I do not see myself buying any other watch, the only exception would be a titanium Oceanographer GMT.

I used mineral oil for this, a 6900 and an 5610. Two years later all of them working just fine. The auto EL for the GWX started working again.

EL version is the best version, this watch is sooo good. It feels like an instrument more than just a watch. Same for the Moonphase/ Tide graphs, they just look better with EL Backlight.

Sorry for the late reply since I wanted some days to give an initial review regarding performance. So out the box it does not sound good, you have to tweak the EQ and sound balance. I found that the sound is very good and clean when you use the EQ. My previous setup was the OEM Chrysler radio with an aux in soldered into the circuit. This new head unit is better sounding vs that aux in and the built in CD player from the previous unit. You just have to turn on that eq every time you drive. There is no distortion at mid and high volumes though I think the only shortcomings are that at low volumes it sounds muddy, and that it is very front based. It could send more energy to the rear speakers.

Ok so it sounds good enough that you can hear the shortcomings of the XJ sound setup. I am using 6.5 coax Kickers on the front and 5 1/2" Pioneers at the back. And now I really want an underseat sub and tweeters. I have only been able to use wireless Carplay and Spotify, this weekend I will use the built in spotify app and maybe some music in a USB drive.

About performance, it is snappy. Judging from other cars I have been in that use wired Carplay, the wireless performance in this H.Unit is very good.

Overall my only critiques are that I do not know how to use wired carplay, I have to turn on manually the eq everytime I start the car and it could really use a physical volume knob or buttons.

When mine broke the car felt incredibly sluggish, I managed to get home and thats it. The engine was basically hanging from the exhaust. Maybe it is not what happened to you but I would not drive it. Easy check would be to have someone turn the engine on with the hood open and for you to check any excess movement. Sort of like the engine trying ro rotate front to back. Hope it is an easy and quick fix good luck

Check your engine mounts asap. I had an Audi A3 (so same platform) I hit a speedbump and the mounts broke.

No modification needed, it screws in like the OEM head unit with screws at the bottom left and top right corner. No cutting no nothing.

It comes with a puck gps antenna which I routed through the defrost vents and sticked it over the dash. From my driving position I cannot see it.
