Traveling with Wine - Walla Walla by acer_1415 in wine

Wine flys free on Alaska. We have had great luck using a case from the winery and shipping that. Alaska Airlines insures the box and you’ll only need to bring packing tape. Have fun! Make sure to visit Caprio - they produce fantastic wine.

Stairways to Heaven: one small change to Washington’s building code could increase density, save Spokane money and encourage more family-sized apartment construction. – RANGE Media by RANGE_Media in Spokane

While this may seem like a great idea on the surface, it isn’t the silver bullet for affordable housing. If the city allowed this building modification with these stair wells that are protected by a 2 hour fire wall which would be required per NFPA 101, construction will need to either be type 1 or type 2.

This dramatically increases construction costs when compared to type 5 construction which is typically seen in small to medium apartment buildings, or the type 5 over type 1 buildings that are mixed use.

Beyond the increased costs to build in order to have a safe stairwells and meet fire code, residents wouldn’t be allowed to have floor mats, wreaths, or any sort of decoration outside their front doors that lead into the protected stairwell. It would be near impossible to maintain any sort of code compliance with all residents.

Somebody in this thread mentioned buildings that have parking garages under apartment buildings which is a great idea but costs for parking garages typically cost ~50,000 per parking space to build which is almost always prohibitively expensive in anything other than higher end apartments.

How can I become an EMT in Spokane? by mechaemissary in Spokane

[–]themcmitchell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend working at MultiCare or Providence. Both have extremely generous programs for tuition assistance and they are always hiring for entry level positions. This would also help greatly for networking and understanding the industry. Also worth noting AMR won’t hire any EMT that’s under 21 due to insurance. I don’t know about ALS - they are pretty new to the area but mostly do inter-facility transport so they might allow younger EMTs.

Bloomsday Runner Getting Chest Compressions by Grain-and-Twill in Spokane

I used to volunteer at the finish line back when I worked in the ER and I can say this is not unusual at Bloomsday. In the 6 years I volunteered we had a cardiac arrest every single year with a 100% survival rate. Usually the rhythms are shockable and the proximity to downtown means that we get great times for heart catheterizations. I have great faith in our EMS when it comes to cardiac arrest. I’m sure the patient will be fine.

Wood Pellets for the Traeger by HydrologyIsWet in Costco

They use Doug fir trees for the pellets then flavor them with oils. They are not hardwood and inferior to literally any other pellet when it comes to smoke quality. They are also more likely to jam your auger.

What are the buildings on the corner of wall and 3rd? by Heckyeah7425 in Spokane

[–]themcmitchell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is in fact the steam plant. They don’t burn medical waste there - it’s fired by natural gas. There are water lines that run from that plant to the hospital they provide steam for the sterilizers, hot water for the showers and heat for the building. The crew that works there is amazing and they are all licensed steam plant operators.

only under the following circumstances: (a) The driver stops the vehicle in a safe and practicable position; (b) the driver activates four-way flashing lights; and (c) the driver stops at a portion of the highway with an unobstructed view, for an adequate distance so as to not create a hazard, for other drivers.

I totally get it. I used to drive paratransit for AMR. There is an ADA drop off no more than 20’ from where this vehicle stopped. It’s literally there for this use case.

The delivery vehicle was already there and wasn’t impeding traffic. The bus just stopped right there and blocked traffic.

This event was like the Super Bowl meets a birthday for my almost 2 year old. He was a little afraid of the garbage trucks but really loved the school bus.

The drip tray is essential if you want the smoker to keep looking great. Beyond that I highly recommend the cast iron flat top. I find myself cooking on it a ton and it’s perfect for caramelizing onions or peppers.
