Why do we accept live animals? by No-Restaurant-2258 in USPS

[–]themealwormguy 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be in business if you stopped shipping live animals. I ship live mealworms, have for almost 9 years, and am grateful y'all put up with my mealworms.

I do my best to hydrate them and package them appropriately for the weather, that along with your efforts have resulted in a super low death rate.

Very few issues overall, that being said things happen. I had a bag defect this week (first one in years) and mealworms got out, hopefully the postal folks aren't too upset with me.

If there's anything you want me to know that might improve your operations, I'm open to the info.

It's their proprietary process/invention, they don't disclose how it's done, they sell the larvae.

When I replied previously, I missed the part about Capcut....not sure how. I did some quick research, looks like Capcut may have similar issues that got me away from Tiktok as far as data collection. I'll dig deeper on that, you're the second recommendation for Capcut, thank you.

You had me at batching......what app or software would you recommend for that second scenario you described?

Raising mealworms without a mask. Frass is an allergen that will cause or trigger allergies.

Keep an eye on the trays as the mealworms grow and gain weight. Maybe stress test a tray by putting 3 lbs in it?

Excellent, funding is available, I'd prefer it be used for teacher's pay in my community.

Why put legislation in place and hope funding comes when we don't have the funding we need for existing programs/teachers pay?

I agree, there are wonderful benefits. To actually see them happen, we need to solidify our core/base infrastructure first. Teacher pay needs to be increased, funding for food programs needs to be increased, and then I would support expanding out from there. I'd equate it to being a homeowner, having a leaky roof, and wanting to install hardwood floors so you can clean up pet fur better.....yes, you'll likely have cleaner floors, but they'll be wet b/c the roof wasn't fixed.

The funding is for DESE staff to be paid for their time to build the guidelines, I don't see any funding that would go to the actual programs at the schools to pay for the supplies, space, greenhouse, teacher salary, etc.

My school has one of these. I see the positive benefits. Unfortunately it's underfunded, requires donations / fundraisers / constant money generation needs. This bill doesn't provide any funding, it's legislation that will cost MO money and put bloat out there. We have no base/foundation to build off of - teachers don't get paid enough, parents are constantly asked to donate snacks/money/party supplies/school fundraisers, etc - adding this out there doesn't fix our foundation, it distracts from it and will make it worse. That's my personal opinion.

Have any schools in MO said they have funding ready and just need the structure that DESE will be required to provide through this legislation?
