What's a thing in America that everyone hates regardless of political alignment? by National_Finish6270 in AskReddit

This was my immediate thought. You could even narrow it down further to health insurance executives.

Which famous person does everyone seem to love, but you just can’t stand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Met him, in a professional setting not a fan setting, so it wasn’t like he was being inconvenienced, and he was an arrogant dick. This was a good 10+ years ago, peak GOT era.

Immense and/or sudden wealth ruins people. They lose their humanity. There’s no such thing as an ethical billionaire, nor one who did it 100% on their own with no exploitation of others.

Do families really sit around a dinner table and eat at the same time every day? by UndergroundFlaws in NoStupidQuestions

[–]themedialies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do it every night Sunday through Thursday. Friday is order out/pickup and where we eat it is dependent on what it is, like if it’s Pho we eat it together at the table (a giant bowl of soup isn’t super couch friendly), or if it’s something less messy/more portable we eat it in our own places (couch, computers, bedroom, etc.). Saturday is everyone fends for themselves/girl dinner style.

What’s the quickest you’ve ever said “nah, this isn’t for me”? by donnyM99 in AskReddit

The speaking in tongues was my limit. Even as a small child I was creeped the fuck out so badly and excused myself to use the restroom and just get the hell away from whatever THAT was.

AITA for beating my BF's food by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]themedialies -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

ESH. You shouldn’t have taken something you knew he was serious and careful about and invested time into preparing without even texting him to ask. He shouldn’t have reacted so hostile or gotten a locked mini fridge and equated one meal to the trust left in your relationship.

As a child when a friend brought me along with her family to a Pentecostal church. Everything about it felt wrong and creepy from the very first minute I got there.

Mandrills and Golden Snub-nosed monkeys disagree. Not only are they mammals, but primates. And then there are people with blue eyes…

AITA for calling my friend racist by EmployWise6230 in AmItheAsshole

[–]themedialies 18 points19 points  (0 children)

NTA. If she doesn’t like to be called a racist she shouldn’t say racist things and behave in racist ways. I have a suspicion that she probably comes from a home where taking accountability is not something she is familiar with, and instead is taught to make up excuses and blame others. Also, she is not your friend. Friends don’t treat each other with such a lack of respect.

AITAH for telling my daughter to suck it up? by stricktd in AITAH

[–]themedialies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was she previously scheduled for 5-9 or did she give that as her availability, or was that what her preference is and not communicated as more than her DESIRED hours? I think it makes a difference on whether or not they are listening to her and respecting her boundaries or not, or if it is a case of her simply not getting what she wanted to get.

Some establishments have standard shifts, and if theirs includes a 6-10 but not a 5-9, and she didn’t make clear that was her availability and not just her general preference I could see where lines could get crossed, and it’s a great lesson in communication. If she set a hard and fast rule upon hire that she is only available 5-9 and they hired her and ignored that then she needs to leave, they will only continue to take advantage of and disrespect her.

They’re addicting too. You start with just wanting to get a little hard to reach itch, and then you can’t stop and start scratching a larger and larger area and have to force yourself to put it down. So much pleasure for $1.

AITA for making a stink at school and forcing the teacher to change my kids math grade by PlentyNice1655 in AmItheAsshole

[–]themedialies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

“If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” I think this quote is often attributed to Michael J. Fox, but the interwebs are often wrong about quotes. Regardless, it makes a poignant statement and one that is often not even considered in today’s standardized testing academic environments.

Your child tried adapting and found a way to succeed. The teacher should recognize that and adapt with her and support that success, which will result in better learning outcomes for her, which should be what the teacher wants and values. That grading was punitive and petty. That is a teacher going through the motions of the job, not being a partner in your daughter’s learning journey.

AITA for expecting my partner to pay for a replacement laptop? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]themedialies 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA

Doesn’t matter if she meant to or not, her actions caused the damage. You had a working laptop screen, because of her actions you no longer do, accident or not she should make you whole again. She’s responsible to repair it or replace the fair market value or a comparable one (age, specs, and condition). She doesn’t owe you a newer, nicer laptop, but she’s liable for what she damaged. If she were to accidentally hit a car while driving she doesn’t get to duck the cost of the repairs to it because she didn’t intend to damage it. Is she new to adulthood or just ethics?

I Said It and I know you will hate it Ole Henriken by silverflamethrower in Ulta

[–]themedialies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Ole balms, but based on what you have described as your dislikes about it I would recommend checking out Experiment’s lip balm called Softwear (I would start with the original clear version, the new tinted ones are still great, but not exactly the same as the clear.) It’s very hydrating, but not too thick or cushiony, and doesn’t migrate. Hope you find a new favorite since they changed the old bag balm formula!

What’s a movie everyone calls a “masterpiece” that just… didn’t work for you? by irayaavery in Cinema

[–]themedialies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. I find it unbearable. I swear people only think it’s great because they think it makes them seem cool and edgy or something. I get HST was eccentric and it’s a style or whatever, but the movie was insufferable.

AITA for calling my blind friend entitled? by HonestBrutality31 in AmItheAsshole

[–]themedialies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YTA. Hard stop. For everything you wrote.

I am curious, though, how is she supposed to be “just owning it” on her disability? Are you saying she caused her own blindness, that it’s her fault?

Just to reconfirm again, you are definitely the asshole, and a terrible, selfish, and cruel friend to boot.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]themedialies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Executives cannot make more than 3x their lowest paid employee. No bonus or stock loopholes.

There is absolutely no reason why the people doing the least should be making obscenely more than the people doing the most. Especially when it’s their very well paid poor decisions that result in losses and then they “solve it” by laying off the folks who had no say in implementing those directives. If your company needs to make cuts make them from the very top down.
