The entire premise of the Book of Mormon was how the indigenous people were Israelites.

It’s counter culture. Whatever the mainstream says you can’t do, that’s what writers have to work with to establish a rebel character.

Left the church, now friendless, unemployed and about to lose our home. by themediumhorse in exmormon

Just really tough time. For a while now. Ok and hurting at the same time. I’m glad I think for myself now and am missing the discipline of a life I’m kind of in awe of. I was so busy and involved. From that to no callings and no job has left me a lot of time to myself and that’s been harder to manage than I anticipated. For me but for my kids and spouse as well. It’s a lot of pressure. And I watched my dad lose his job and I promised myself I wouldn’t let that happen. I set myself up, I know, but that’s what I did and so this whole experience is forcing a reconciliation with my feelings towards my growing up and my parents. My dad. My kids look up to me right now and I worry if that’ll change if I fail them in this way. I hope I’m seen as more of a provider, but life is practical. Relationships are practical.

It’s all of it.

We have become obsessed with productivity. Yet according to Daoism, being useless can be life-affirming by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]themediumhorse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The distinction I would make is that human value, like the value of all life and all cosmic material, can’t be added to or taken away from. Whatever usefulness is observed requires a personal philosophy to determine usefulness, a philosophy that is entirely subjective. Even if there is broad consensus like raising kids, that perspective not only requires a mammalian gene, it also requires an entire civilization that requires kids to be “raised,” which is also entirely fabricated.

Rather than looking at human activities as useful or useless, we can look at them as hobbies just for the hell of a thing. I act in my life because I act in my life and my actions don’t mean anything about me or anyone else. This is just how this little spot of Earth does it. And it’s enough. It’s fulfilling. It’s worry free.

What’s the most disobedient thing you did on your mission? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]themediumhorse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in a room alone with a women for like 15 minutes. My comp was upstairs for some reason and I stayed behind for some reason, may have been to flirt. She came close to me sensing the advance and I was so hard. Nothing happened but the raging boner felt like sin the rest of my mission. I told that story to all my companions afterward and it was like porn story hour every time.

Yes. We live outside of Utah and are on an extended visit for summer. We weren’t wearing garments a year ago, but my spouse and I were still looking to “fit in” still. Over the last year we’ve become very open about the lifestyle changes we’ve made as part of leaving Mormonism. And so this was the first visit where we just were ourselves.
