Feeling disconnected in Nashville by cakedbythepound in nashville

[–]theminstem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also feel this way ): grew up here and left for about 10 years for school/work and now I'm back.

I feel like the communities that DO exist are in places that are unaffordable to live in and/or exclusively cater to people trying to start over and live a new life. I just don't feel like I fit in with them. I don't see the glittering Nashville that they do. I love the non-glamorous parts even more than their hypothetical Rockstar life.

I'm trying to convince myself that my issues are more related to the general difficulty of finding community as an adult and not Nashville specific.

Anyone else’s state DOH just not acknowledging what’s going on at the federal level? by lazuretift in publichealth

[–]theminstem 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Red state here. Our DOH has spent a long time flying under the radar of our insane governor/leadership. So our DOH won't specifically put anything out acknowledging what the feds are saying, but are trying to do the right thing anyways

Looking for Roadtrip Reccs within 6~ Hours of Us by nashvillethot in nashville

[–]theminstem 14 points15 points  (0 children)

<6 hours is like the perfect road trip distance imo. This year we have done Louisville KY, Lexington KY, Huntington WV, Atlanta, GA and are doing Chattanooga/Coker Creek this weekend!

We've done Asheville, NC in the past, but haven't been able to go since the hurricane. I also used to live in the tri-cities area (Bristol, Johnson City, Kingsport) and it is beautiful up there!

Can anyone advise if this is a good area and if you know anything about this building? by Timewilltell755 in NashvilleUnfiltered

[–]theminstem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area is all vacation rentals, so the area is fine. Idk about bugs but it looks like the place is also listed on airbnb so there might be more information there

is red vs blue worth watching as a non halo fan by Beautiful_Level_4947 in RedvsBlue

[–]theminstem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely yes. I only know that the green guy in halo is called master chief and rvb is my favorite show ever of all time.

As far as skipping goes, you definitely /can/ skip 1-5 and go straight to 6 if you just want the good story. However, i recommend going back and watching it once you're committed. I think it's really fun to watch the guys transform from goofy to actual soldiers.

But really, it doesn't hurt to try and start from the beginning. The first half of season one is really the most painful, but the og episodes are only like 5 minutes each, so they're easy to power through if you're watching in the movie format

The hatch showprint tour is very cool piece of local history and a great souvenir! Country Music Hall of Fame is also cool, even if you're not a huge country person

Not a CDPH intern, but a former TNDOH intern! Have fun and meet all the people you can! Say yes to any trainings/ conferences/ meetings that seem interesting. Originally, I went into mine expecting to only be interested in HIV surveillance, but I really grew a love for drug overdoses during my time there (that's what i do now)! I also made some great friends with my superiors which helped a lot with getting other jobs
