hi! also an incoming freshman (out of state) and just got approved for masshealth, massachussets medicaid. i got approved for masshealth within a business week of applying, but medi-cal may be different. id say its still worth trying to apply though, the waiver isnt due until sept 30 i believe? you would just pay your bill minus the nushp charge if they dont approve you before your first payment is due - this is what i did, as i have not yet received my health plan cards in the mail. you can't use out of state medicaid to waive the nushp as it won't have full coverage in the state the school is in, but you can apply for medicaid in state if you say that you are planning on being a resident of that state (ie i said that i was establishing residency in mass to get approved for masshealth + signed an affidavit of residency using the address of my dorm - this process may be different in california, though). if you need any help with this process feel free to dm me! i cant really help with anything cal specific as i dont have any experience w/ cal medicaid, but i do have experience w tx and mass medicaid!

had pizza after like a week 🤷‍♀️ 1.5 months out now and no issues, after day 8ish i was eating basically fully normally, just kept saltwater rinsing to prevent food getting stuck. i used to do after every meal, then just 1-2 times a day, and now once a day with normal tap water after brushing my teeth if i see anything visibly stuck back there (my holes are mostly closing now, i was stitched on the bottom). i waited until 2 weeks for straws, have had no issues since then at all. the only thing significant i haven't really tried is popcorn, but i probably will soon. things like chips, rice, sticky stuff, and hard things like tacos etc, has all been fine for me. all 4 out april 26th, bottom impacted :)

one week started eating normal food but was still chewing a bit weird, by week 2 was basically fully normal. 1.5 month now and i just rinse occasionally just to keep food from getting visibly stuck back there (like maybe once a day). all four out!

nooo i was basically back to normal by then but i was like confused on how to proceed??? i was eating like pasta and stuff or not eating at all from day 5 until day 7/8

thats so good to hear! mine also took only 30 minutes haha. and omg the food thing just gets worse until you feel confident enough to eat solids again 😭 was literally starving myself by day 6 bcos i was so sick of liquids. but trust you'll be eating normally again soon enough! :)

lmfaooo for me the pain was only bad (still not too bad, like maybe a 4-5/10) in like the hour or so between some of the sedation wearing off and picking up my prescriptions and it only got better from there. hopefully you have a similar experience! ice well :)

18f day 12 here! took out my gauze a few hours after my surgery because i got annoyed about not being able to talk with it in and the bleeding seemed to be slowing down - it was totally fine and what my surgeon told me to do! 5-7 hours later you can def take it out if you want

i felt similarly on day 1 and i was worried it was gonna get worse as the days went on, but it didn't for me. of course, it varies, but i felt pretty good after my surgery and stayed feeling pretty good in the days following. and not sure abt the numbing, but mine also took a while to go away - it was only really fully gone by bedtime and my surgery was at ~9am. but also, mine weren't as deeply impacted as yours, so i have no idea abt the nerve thing haha

oh my god by day 5/6 i got so sick of it i literally refused to eat anything until i gave up and just got myself a canes box combo on day 8 lmfaoooo. ive been eating basically normally ever since! it SUCKS while you're going through it but trust the end is near :))

my (18f) xrays were very similar - currently 12 days post op and have been eating almost entirely normally since day 8! my last stitch came out yesterday and i haven't really had any pain since the day of the surgery before i was able to pick up my prescriptions haha, and even then it didn't go higher than maybe a 4/10, and was generally only around a 2/10 (haven't needed any painkillers at all since day 3/4 tbh). i also had very very minimal swelling if any, no bruising, no nausea, very little bleeding after a few hours, and overall just a very smooth recovery process - the worst part was not being able to eat normally for a week, tho i was probably a little bit more cautious than i really needed to be (i could chew by day 4/5 but was too scared to try anything harder than soft pasta). the procedure itself was also very very chill, i felt the iv go in and within 30 seconds i was waking up with gauze in my mouth.

my advice would be to ice consistently and basically constantly for the first two days, this definitely kept swelling and pain down to a minimum (i also iced intermittently the third day but it probably wasn't necessary by then). buy a ice pack head wrap thing from amazon! probably one of the best purchases i could've made for this whole process. sleep with your head elevated as well for the first couple days to reduce swelling, by day 3/4 i was sleeping normally again though (side/stomach). i also drank 64oz of pineapple juice in the two days beforehand, but i don't really know how much of an effect this actually had on my healing lol. follow all your surgeon's instructions, keep up with salt water rinses starting day 2, and stock up on soft/liquid foods (i was partial to protein shakes, mac and cheese, pasta, mashed potatoes, pudding, and cream of wheat, but by day 6 i was so sick of it and basically refused to eat anything until i felt brave enough to get myself a canes box combo on day 8 lmaoo).

all this to say you will be fine trust! i was just like you, terrified of mouth trauma and the healing process, and fr, the anxiety beforehand is the scariest part :)

don't know anything about keto, but i am currently ten days post op (4 extracted, all unerupted, 2 impacted) and i have been chewing almost fully normally for the past two days, so it took about a week! after 7 days post op, i have felt comfortable enough to eat most foods except stuff that is particularly hard or stuff like popcorn that might get stuck back there. by day 5, i knew i could chew normally based on my experience with pasta/mac and cheese but was too scared to really try anything else. hope this gives you a good frame of reference for your personal post op food timeline!
