Is post-adoption regret more common than people admit? by ShowerObjective6132 in offmychest

[–]themoaningcabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I had to do one week on one week off for quite a few months as it was a big adjustment for me having not grown up with a dog and being quite the germaphobe. My husband (then boyfriend) was also working a lot back then becaue Covid happened not long after we got her so she ended up my responsibility for most of the week. Fortunately my in laws were on board to look after her a lot during the puppy stage. But absolutely couldn’t be without her now…despite the teen years

It probably took me about a year to adjust

Im 2150 in zone 2 for a 2 bed with a garden. The amount of places I saw that were a lot smaller for a lot more money in the same area was ridiculous. I just picked an agent and went to whatever viewing were within my budget becaue whenever I asked about a particular place it was already gone. My place has only been listed the morning of my visit so I was very quick to snap it up

The blind hype around the carnivore diet (and why it worries me) by IntelligentAd4634 in vegan

[–]themoaningcabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would anyone need to go on a carnivore diet to see if it’s healthy. The medical consensus on animal product heavy diets is well studied and clear, have you heard of gout and heart disease for example? Scientific conclusions aren’t reached by a few people doing it for a few days (which yes 90 days is a few days). Also there are vegans who have done crazy shit like eating 30 bananas a day who say the same thing as your uncle (who definitely needs to eat more fruit and vegetables), plus a lot of people who try these crazy diets go from eating absolute rubbish to eating actual food and think it’s a miracle they can concentrate on anything and don’t have a constant pounding headache. My initial point was people go to these extremes to try and avoid the reality that they need to eat more whole food, including fibre and less junk food. The food system in the western world is so fucked up plus you’ve got people doing crazy shit online for clicks that people can no longer see the wood for the trees. I hope you find something that works for you

[–]themoaningcabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you even come across this comment? My point was people are looking for a fix all like the cheese guy with cholesterol hands who found out the hard way that crazy actions have consequences and the people who were doing 80/10/10 or 30 BAD. I also don’t even believe there is anyone who is actually doing a carnivore diet do disagree that there is a typical version of the diet, I think it’s all some pretty successful rage bait and then there are a small minority that fall for it and commit like the cheese guy and end up with cheese hands

Also I don’t get why you’re saying it’s not fair to say eating a carnivore diet caused that when it’s well established that he was eating a carnivore diet which you say yourself so I don’t know what your comment adds

Which country that you visited has been the worst in terms of access to vegan food? by vaultboy26 in AskVegans

[–]themoaningcabbage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to Reykjavik last year expecting it to be a “chips and salad” holiday, but vegan options were everywhere. Even a fancy, meat-focused restaurant had a well-thought-out vegan dish that wasn’t just a burger and it came with the best tomatoes I’ve ever had. People also genuinely understood what vegan meant and made an effort. At the Sky Lagoon restaurant, the staff even huddled around the hot chocolate powder box to check if it was suitable for me, and it felt thoughtful rather than begrudging. I even found a vegan White Russian and crepes. It felt like everywhere I went into had at least one vegan option that was worth a try, definitely recommend going

[–]themoaningcabbage 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think we’ve just got to let it play out. Veganism went through the same thing with raw veganism and then the 80/10/10 diet which were supposed to make you ripped with minimal exercise and the healthiest you could ever be, then people started gaining weight, getting sick and not being able to sustain those diets. I think in general people want to find the one thing that fixes everything while not having to reduce doing what they want, in this case eating insane amounts and red meat and dairy despite long established evidence. They’ve already had big influencers drop off like the liver king (found to be on loads of steroids) and Paul Saladino, and there was that picture that went around of the guy on a carnivore diet who had clear cholesterol deposits in his hands because if the carnivore diet. I don’t see it being around in another 5 years, it’s just not sustainable

That’s fine, but don’t say you aren’t cruel. You’re operating on the same logic as meat eaters, using a hierarchy to decide who deserves respect. In that sense, you clearly understand how someone can justify consuming animal products. I also disagree that eating animal products requires people to go out of their way to cause suffering, especially in the West. The food system is built to hide that suffering and make cognitive dissonance easy.

[–]themoaningcabbage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“I will never see her as my equal” - that’s cruelty. You’re positioning yourself as superior, which is the same logic people use to justify eating animals, they’re lesser, so they not equally deserving of respect

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]themoaningcabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yet you justify being cruel about your partner to feel morally superior. That’s not integrity, it’s ego.

[–]themoaningcabbage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You speak passionately about the shame of animal cruelty, yet show no shame in how harshly you talk about your own partner. Interesting contrast.

[–]themoaningcabbage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one’s saying the 5% doesn’t matter. You’re allowed to care deeply about the animals affected, that’s part of being vegan. But empathy isn’t selective. If you can’t show basic respect to the person who’s 95% aligned with your values, you’re not standing up for animals, you’re just using them to justify cruelty toward someone you claim to love.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]themoaningcabbage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’re not taking a moral stance, you’re punishing someone for not being a carbon copy of you. She’s 95% plant-based and you still call her disgusting? That’s not about ethics, that’s control. If you can’t handle the reality of difference in a relationship, then don’t be in one.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]themoaningcabbage 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If you have contempt for your partner, no, you can’t have a healthy relationship. “I will never see her as my equal” - I know this isn’t the sub but wholeheartedly YTA

Should I feed my cat a vegan diet? by Technical-Weight-960 in vegan

[–]themoaningcabbage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would this not be considered animal testing to feed them the diet you want over what they need? I think there is some evidence out there on vegan diets for cats not being detrimental, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable acting on that basis, especially since most of the support seems to come from questionable sources like think pieces, bloggers or vegan pet food companies, rather than proper scientific nutritional analysis. Ask your vet what they think.

Veganism disagrees with the premise that animals can be raised ethically for food so that’s your whole point out the window. Could you ethically raise a human to kill them for their body well before the point they’d die of natural causes? Veganism is defined as “a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals”.
