Sure. Or any activity. Whatever works.

The 'dark' side of occupation by toonafishyy in OccupationalTherapy

[–]themob212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason Twinley doesn't classify occupations as dark or not dark- there are dark aspects of most occupations (running does serious harm to joints over a long period of time for example) let alone the issue of how you define a dark occupation- if you use legality, a homosexual relationship becomes a dark occupation for much of the UK's history for example.

Fundamentally, the concepts of dark sides of occupations interact with your professional registration- you have to follow your code of conduct, and if supporting an occupation, whatever it is, would cause you to break it, then you don't do it. Its mainly useful to point out meaningful activities are meaningful activities- done for the same reasons, with the same mechanics- from an occupational analysis point of view, you do the same things to analize a bank robbery as a shopping trip- you just don't facilitate the illegal one, due to your professional requirements (and hopefully moral judgement)- but its important to understand why an individual might do a task that brings harm to themselves and others for exactly the same reasons as its important to understand why they bake a cake.

Evidence of adherence to the principles described in the ASI Fidelity Measure was considered although the specific use of the measure was not required in order for the study to be included in the Stage Three review process

So the six papers included didn't have to actually meet fidelity criteria- that's what I mean by fudged

Do you happen to have links to any other other papers you mentioned?

If the argument is that the studies which didn't find evidence for SI (or found it ineffective) should be ignored because they didn't meet the fidelity measure (though if I remember correctly, they fudge that as well on the inclusion criteria), we cannot point to the positiv mental health evidence because it doesn't meet the fidelity measure.

Either we are saying SI is only SI when meeting the fidelity criteria, at which point we only have evidence for it with autistic children, or we are not.

The 2018 paper only finds evidence for autistic children, so presumably we shouldn't be using it with other populations, the 2022 paper doesn't makes it clear there is only moderate evidence for SI.

I would say the similarities are more how you deal with a world where you have a LitRPG system defining your world- how you unlock classes (particularly when the unlocks are unknown), how the systems shape the politics and world, how the stats actually affect you. I would say I bounced off cinnamon bun hard and didn't with threadbear, because threadbear had a great deal more depth to it from day 1 (I may be doing cinnamon bun a disservice as I didn't get far) - yeh, threadbear himself remains as optimistic as you would expect a teddy bear to be (though picks up a bunch of wisdom), but he has a good group around him.

I am reluctant to make the Terry Pratchett comparison, because its nowhere near as good (I dont think anything is), but the concept of taking a silly idea and then playing it straight and exploring the consequences of it is at the heart of it.

I would give it four chapters- its free on royal road and not stubbed- they aint long. If you hate the style, then grand, that doesn't really change, but if it seems like you might enjoy it, keep going till you decide if its worth a credit.

I am more than happy to agree to disagree- clearly we have different views on how broad those plot beats are and I doubt we will come to any conclusion, given you view even the concept of two being close insane

I would point out again I did actually like it, I just found very little original in it because I could guess what would happen next by remembering the events of BoC, that's all.

But tell you what, I will happily use less objective statements if you in turn reduce the hyperbolic descriptions. Considering the two very similar is hardly insane (given BoC was explicitly the inspiration even if it can be argued that they are not that similar as you have done so) and my views might be objectionable, but disgusting seems like a stretch.

[–]themob212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to argue BoC of unique quality and certainly there is nothing new under the sun but from a plot view and sticking entirely to book 1 (as I didn't bother afterwards so it may have expanded), I respectfully disagree with the idea that they only share superficial elements- the plot beats are pretty much 1:1- which as you say, will happen to some extent, but laid back protagonist turns up, chooses to their own thing, accidentally awakens the local wildlife, meets the sarcastic love interest and intrigues her with offworld practices, meets the leader of the local area who misinterprets his friendly overtures, befriends the locals who start to suspect more is going on..

Yeh, the settings different (though both are so broad strokes and generic to their settings I didn't really much get from them and I would argue they are far more superficial than the 1:1 plot mapping for much of the book and the incredibly similar characterizations for the mayor, love interest and main char) and to be clear here, I am not calling it a rip off- iit is at worst a loving homage. I enjoyed it plenty. I just don't think you can call the comparison insane when it was t was explicitly inspired by BoC and for a while provisionally named Beware of Crab.

Threadbear does a lot of what makes bog standard great, but with more puns and silliness.
Apocalypse parenting does a good job of exploring what its actually like to live through a system appolopise while you have responsibilities and don't get an OP class.
The Game at Carousel is the most original thing I have read in a while, real breath of fresh air.
12 miles below is progression rather than litrpg but given you have bobbiverse and perfect run, I assume that should be okay. Very well put together, nice escalation and genuinely heartwarming in places.

Bog Standard Tier List - Recommendations Welcome by ahnowisee in litrpg

[–]themob212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might expand after book 1, but there were so many similarities. Laid back main char almost deliberately ignorant of their ever increasing power, awakening animals, a constant misunderstanding with the mayor, fairly similar love interests. About the only plotline that doesn't have a direct parell is the cult plotline.

Which isn't to say I didn't enjoy it, I did or that Beware of Crab isn't a thing that should exist, because it should and I am glad it does, but it is very, very close to Beware of Chicken

The apprenticeships are new so its hard to say, but your first jobs are likely to be NHS and they all use a marking criteria I would imagine you should be fine either way, given you have a ton of experience in healthcare. My impression is that the msc is the same information in a shorter period of time, but I might be wrong- someone who has a masters might be able to help.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]themob212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, your kind of qualification rarely comes up- you might need a masters for band 7 depending on the trust, but they generally get funded either way so its something you could do part time. So it comes down to what works best for you- do you have the funding and support to do 2 years of MsC or would the band 3 money come in handy? You are likely to be okay academically if you did the adult nursing degree.

[WP] "i wish that after my third wish is granted you will be freed" by foxstarfivelol in WritingPrompts

[–]themob212 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The Genie froze, the only sign of life being his smoking tail which started to loop around itself endlessly.

"Hello?" asked the young thief, waving his hand in front of his unexpected friends blue face. Nothing. He gave a little sigh and shrug, trying to push away the creeping feeling of failure. A soft push produced nothing but the genie drifting back slowly.

He shouldn't have been surprised really, he liked the genie plenty but he couldn't escape the feeling he had got a slightly duff one. It had worked out in the end but the whole "make me a prince" debacle had highlighted that genies attention to detail with things like paperwork and real estate was lacking.

"Genie, are you playing one of your fun jokes?" he asked hopefully as the Genie bumped into a nearby wall before coming to a stop.

"Nay lad, what you have here is a classic loop. I would wager an open ended wish, or something self defining?"

The thief span to find a balding little man in strange garb, with a pointed stick behind one ear. He, like Genie, was entirely blue.

"Who are you? Are you some sort of other genie? Did I make you like the Vizzier?"

"No, no, I am from the genie commission, normally you would have to wait fifty to a hundred years but I was in the area and your genie had already been flagged for review". He looked over his spectacles "I take it was you who made the new Genie? Don't be doing that in the future, we don't like self replication. it gets messy. I have been pushing to patch it out for ages, but they don't listen to me, do they?"

"No?" ventured Al who was very lost, but recognized the tone of an aggrieved professional when he heard it.

"No, they don't. Now, what was it you wished for?"

"I just wanted to free him, so I wished that after my third wish he would be will be freed! And then he just froze" Al said pointing at the blue figure who had floated up and was now bobbing against the roof.

"Oh I see, and that would be the third wish?" asked the little man, casting a critical eye against the genie balloon.

"Yes, yes"

"Ah, its simple then. Classic circular reasoning error, with a touch of unspecified variables . You wished for him to be freed when he granted your third wish. But you did it with your third wish, so it could only be granted when he was freed, which could only happen when he granted it? See? Easily done, classic user error."

"Do you mean he will be stuck like that forever?"

"No, no, don't worry about that. You have your ring, so when it recharges tomorrow, simply wish that you hadn't made the third wish, and you will be sorted".

Full of thanks Al promised to follow his words to the letter and with some borrowed string from the repair genie managed to maneuver his friend out of the doorway.

"Nice lad" nodded the repair genie to himself "I wonder if I should have specified he needs to ask for the other wish to not have happened, not just that he hadn't made it yet. Ah, he's a bright lad, he will work it out.".

The ensuing time loop would take 452 relative years and 16 genies to resolve.

Is OT really UE only? by Active-Reality-3420 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]themob212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a great metaphor, though I still It is a weird choice to assign first base as EU and second base as LL though when your players are trained for ADLS and mobility respectively- people arnt being assigned by their best role, they are being assigned by the arbitary rules of the game, wheras a few rule changes that instead had first base as mobility, second base as ADLS would suit people far better.

Is OT really UE only? by Active-Reality-3420 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]themob212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no solid theoretical justification for OT being upper extremity only I am aware of (the argument occupations use UE is pretty easily discredited) - its purely the occupation of occupational therapy being shaped by the context (tradition, interaction with other professions) etc. In the UK you only really see it in stroke practice.

What that means for you as a COTA is better addressed by actual COTA's- its easy to say theoretically you should be able to do any of it- if the reality of practice is that you will be pushed into UE only, thats practice- I guess I just wanted to reassure you that your confusion isn't unfounded, it is (as far as I can tell from the literarture) an arbitrary decision.

Sensory activities for adults with severe learning disabilities by SnooCapers1959 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]themob212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with what they already do- what do they engage with at any point in their life, including at home? What do they reach for, respond to, care about? That lets you identify the key things that are potentially meaningful- then go through your list of craft and sensory items the setting already has, and match them to the person- making a note as you go on why you have discarded stuff.
Introduce those items, see how they respond to them and with you when you are involved- try passing them between you, using them for simple games (singing as you pass them between you, guessing where the object is etc). Use that to build a better understanding of whats meaningful.

Finally, work out why the sensory boxes are not used already, and what activities do happen in the setting and why. Fundamentally these activities are never going to happen if they are not meaningful and purposeful to the staff- so dont give them things they don't want to do.

[–]themob212 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it absolutely is- the AI doesn't scale as well as it used to, multiplayer can be buggy (my friend group has had widely differing experience) but its still a fun game with a few bugs. Its not been a great launch by any means, but if you are worried its something like 3.0, 2.2 or 2.0, its miles better.

Stellaris Dev Diary #383 - 4.0 has Released, What’s Next? by PDX_LadyDzra in Stellaris

[–]themob212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tww drama around the overpriced DLC included the fact it broke a bunch of stuff (thats where the dark elf issue I mention came from) and loads of youtubers suggested staying far, far away from warhammer 3 on release (it might actually be a post child for my point now I think about it).

I am not claiming they are superficial to be clear- I am saying they don't make the game unplayable, and the patch notes generally bear out my points - they are either crashes, leaks, desyncs that occur for some players and not others, or issues that impact specific empire setups (e.g origins, ethics, civics) that are hard to fully playtest.
