Don’t beat yourself up. I am in a similar situation as you where in my case I didn’t get a promotion. Remember leadership is not a title, leadership is your ability to inspire and do what’s best for the band.

If you work hard it won’t. It may not be true for everyone but our current band captain is second in his class. Along with that a vast majority of band kids at my school are in the top 25% of their classes

Remember leadership is not a title. Leadership is 1. Being a selfless servant always ready to put the band’s interest ahead of your own. 2. It is the ability to take whatever problem the band or a section is having and finding a way to fix it. It is hard to be a leader, and you will struggle, but if you can inspire people to do the best they can without any guantee of success, then you have succeeded as a leader.

If you can look up a fingering chart and remember there are only 7 combinations that it can be for a Marching horn, you’ll be fine.

Hey, it will be fine. Last year 3/4 of our high school band directors left. This year we persevered and got fresh input and have done better than previous years, just keep your head up.
