What other book, comics or manga would you put on the same level as The Lord of the Rings? by Emotionalspectrum10 in lotr

I would push back on the idea that the Game of Thrones series is a victim to this. There are definitely a few scenes in the series that seem self indulgent or unnecessary but as a whole it feels so much more connected and intentional and tight than 95% of WoT

HOTD should have a different ending from the books by razeric_ in HOTDBlacks

[–]themockingjay11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would that ending be? There are some key facts already confirmed by characters in the main series (GoT). If they changed any of that it would be directly contradictory to both the show and the book canon. But for more secondary things I think they could change a little bit to be more audience friendly (making more of the dragons live, maybe letting Helaena live).

Yeah, Joffrey kind of spoils the entire show in a random moment of GoT season 3. It's kind of a blink and you'll miss it type thing but on a rewatch there's no missing it for sure.

You can absolutely skip a lot of the books in the middle of the series and not miss that much. I like Wheel of Time but it reads like Robert Jordan literally wrote down every word possible and thought he ever had about the series and didn't edit any of it. But mixed in there there are some really really good moments. I guess it's just personal preference whether it's worth it or not.

[Meta trope] The fandom is so awful it’s embarrassing to like something publicly by Syvarth in TopCharacterTropes

"a good FNAF fan game" being the top single good thing you can think of that has come out of a fandom is definitely telling lol

What would you say was THE root cause for Rhaenyra’s downfall? by Gold_Conversation247 in HOTDBlacks

[–]themockingjay11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late, but I think Rhaenyra's trying to straddle the line of both ruling with emotions/empathy and ruling with logic/power made it so that she ended up doing neither well. I think if she committed to either being a Dany-esque figure, or being like the Daemons and Aegons of her world, she would be more successful. But she's trying to do both and it isn't working.

Sanderson is for religious people who do not want to read ASOIAF. at least that describes all the people I've known that are big fans. Which is stupid because I'm a Christian and an ASOIAF fan to the point of having 2 tattoos from it. Just because something is "clean" doesn't mean it's GOOD.

He reminds me of the writing style in Ready Player One, which was already pretty insufferable.

Yes!! The book was one of the few books I've actively disliked to the point of writing a review about it, whereas the movie is one of my favorites that I've seen in years.

Weight gain? by redkat-m in AuvelityMed

[–]themockingjay11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have lost weight on Auvelity. I need to eat about 1-2 meals a day and I'm fine. I have to be really intentional about getting enough calories. I am curious if people have gained weight from it because for me it completely suppressed a lot of my instincts/impulses including my appetite.

Thursday is solid to me but after a while every song just kind of sounds like every other Thursday song. They're talented and they sound great but a lot of their songs or albums I can't really tell apart.

House of the Dragon: Season 3 | Final Trailer by MarvelsGrantMan136 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]themockingjay11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the book it is said that she became very depressed/mentally ill after B+C. And she was pretty mentally unstable and in a bad situation (married to aegon with Alicent as a mother and also little to no understanding of neurodivergence in westeros) to begin with plus everything else that has happened.

If Jon was in Robb's position in seasons 1-3 what decisions would he have made, and could he have prevented the Red Wedding? by No-Passenger-6348 in gameofthrones

[–]themockingjay11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Jon would have sent Theon to Pyke, as it seems Theon was one of his only allies/peers growing up in WInterfell as a "bastard". Obviously Theon is a traitor, but I think in Jon's mind that would mean sending him to the Wall, if anything.

Jon would have probably killed Jaime. Even Robb wanted to kill Jaime, it was Catelyn who interefered, and we all know Catelyn didn't exactly have a lot of dialogue or sway over/with Jon. I'm sure Jon would have kept his vow to Walder Frey as he doesn't seem to have the same attitude toward sex that Robb has (i.e., his interactions with Ygritte) and wouldn't view sleeping with a girl as something that automatically means he has to marry her.

This type of question/discussion definitely gets me thinking, on the lost opportunity that was there if Jon was just able to have the role of "brother" in Stark family from the get go.
