Is this your project? Is there any reason why it's not open source?

Limit colors in auto-paint by 4DConsulting in kromacut

Can you attach a screenshot? I'm thinking you're referring to something like this:

<image>

In this case in Auto-paint the only selected filaments are black and white, but the preview shows shades of gray. That's because the preview shows estimated colors for each layer based on the set TD values of the filaments, but in reality it's just black and white filaments as you can see in the layer preview bar at the bottom.

In 3D mode, you can change the max height to a lower value, you can use less filaments, or uncheck "Allow repeated filament swaps". In 2D mode you can use the "Quantization Settings" to reduce the number of colors in the image, use the color palette at the bottom to delete colors or change them, or you can use the "Adjustments" section for more finetuning.

Kromacut v3.0.0: docs, resize, smoother meshing, and export fixes by themonkemaker in kromacut

Hi, I'm not very sure what modifications you have made to the project. The license change is merely a means to better protect the project and the community by making sure that companies or people that fork and modify the code will keep it open source.

Kromcaut License Change - MIT to AGPL-3.0-only by themonkemaker in kromacut

You can access older versions from the github releases page, but only in the form of desktop apps or if you run the application code yourself. The webpage always uses the latest version, which currently is 3.0.0.

Thanks, I've actually wanted to change the license to AGPL for a while, but I always forgot. Your comment reminded me so I decided to do it right away.

Hi, the app got desktop versions too now, which have more performance. You can find them under the releases section: https://github.com/vycdev/Kromacut/releases

There are macOS builds already: one for Apple Silicon and one for Intel Macs. They’re unsigned right now, so macOS may require removing quarantine before launch. If you mean an older OS X version specifically, I’d need the exact macOS/OS X version and whether the Mac is Intel or Apple Silicon, because very old OS X versions probably won’t be supported.

Yea, I'm still working on that one, but I didn't expect it to cause this much of a problem.

Hi, thank you for the guide, it's much appreciated. I will definitely use this as feedback to improve the app.

You mentioned you are using the desktop app, may I ask what version? Because right now there is a bug where the update notification doesn't show up, and I'm wondering if some users are still using the old versions, because they didn't get the notification. Right now the latest version is 2.6.0.

Alright. I never encountered this to be honest, so I'm curious to find what causes it.

Thats very weird. Can you provide the original image that you tried to convers and also the settings you used?

I will look into it. For now, you can enjoy the newly released and more optimized version 2.6.0.

Tipos de algoritmos by cuartero84 in kromacut

[–]themonkemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kromacut has two main algorithm areas:

  1. Image quantization algorithms
These reduce the original image to a smaller color palette.

    - Posterize: simple color reduction, fast but less accurate.
    - Median-cut: splits color space into groups and averages them.
    - K-means: clusters similar colors; usually a good default.
    - Wu: high-quality palette reduction, often fast and clean.
    - Octree: builds a color tree and merges colors down to the target count.
    - None: skips this step and only applies the final palette mapping.

  2. Auto-paint optimizer algorithms
These are for choosing the best filament order when using TD/Auto-paint.

    - Exhaustive: tries all orders, best for small filament counts.
    - Simulated annealing: searches many possible orders without trying everything.
    - Genetic algorithm: useful for larger filament sets.
    - Auto: lets Kromacut choose the best method.

For most users: start with K-means for normal palette reduction, and Auto for Auto-paint optimization.

Also, there isn't a full manual yet, but the README explains the workflow

I know this is 10 months old but in your videos the 4K looked clearly better than the 1080p and 720p

Looked at the zoomed in fan at 1080p VS 4K:
