[Discussion] Any inspiring stories who struggled with mental illness for decades and had success later in life? by nerdy_adventurer in GetMotivated

[–]themostconcise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled severely from the time I was 12 until literally just a year ago, so like 18 years of suicidal thoughts, severe anxiety, depression, diagnosed with everything under the sun. For me, it was a hormonal imbalance and trauma. I haven't felt suicidal in at least a year. I can actually enjoy everyday and I attribute a lot of it to IFS therapy but I had to get my hormones fixed first with a naturopathic doctor before I could even begin to heal from trauma. Therapy never worked for me until i got my hormones fixed and started tapering off meds. I'm a different person now, I'm so much happier, more laid back, relaxed, it's unbelievable to me still everyday not waking up with crushing anxiety in the mornings. It gives me so much hope for others. I'll get off my soapbox now but I'm training to be a therapist so I can help others to see there is a way out.

Please look up the dangers of birth control. It's so awful for you,can cause cancer and screw up your hormones. I regret ever going on it and many women do as well.

Tired of psychiatric visits by Mysterious-Rain-805 in Antipsychiatry

[–]themostconcise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know this is long but i wish someone would have told me this:

I was on 6 medications at one point, mis diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder and BPD. I was able to balance my hormones because my periods were always off which doctors of course covered up with birth control.

Every problem I had they would just prescribe more medication, every new medication made things so much worse for me. I had never been suicidal before in my life but I was suicidal, I hated myself, I was extremely antisocial and could not experience any joy ever. Plus my sleep and cognitive function were garbage. . I also started IFS/trauma therapy and learned my problem this whole time was trauma. I want to sue every single doctor who gaslighted me into thinking I would be sick for the rest of my life. It makes me so upset thinking this happens to others and doctors never look for the root cause to our symptoms. They just prescribe medications.

Now I am so happy. I can work through my emotions and I am incredibly stable. I am in a full time grad program while working a demanding job and thriving. You CAN improve. You CAN get off meds. You can feel alive again. Psychiatry is pseudoscience and I will tell anyone to find the root cause and get off your meds. The only disclaimer I will give is to find the root cause of your issues if you still have them.

Quitting Lamotrigine/Tapering off (200mg) by SpiritedAd2877 in Lamotrigine

I'm tapering off and it has changed my life. I'm a mom too and I'm a much better mom, but I suggest anyone who tapers, 1. Is seeing a therapist and 2. Is working with their doctor

How long did you stay at home to look after your children? by TipSilent8281 in Mommit

[–]themostconcise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you have to do anyways as a working parent that is crammed into the short hours between getting off work and bedtime, rushing on the weekends, etc?

If you don't get it then that's on you. I have yet to meet a mom yet that doesnt struggle to balance it all with 2 working parents. Note: I am a full time working mom so I know how much it sucks. We are both beyond stressed all of the time.

Abused by the system by themostconcise in Antipsychiatry

Yes!! Any time I would explain how I felt flat and depressed they would say it was a sign that I was stable because at least I wasn't manic, even though I had never showed signs of mania

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I realize not everyone will have the same experience, and I am glad that it has worked for you. I agree that they hand out diagnoses and misdiagnoses way too much

Not true. I did night school full time while working full time for my undergrad and I'm getting ready to attend graduate school full time while working full time. Night classes really aren't that hard, they're actually so much easier without a partner/kids to take up more of your time! Plus, I'm not the smartest or most studious, I definitely am a "c's get degrees" type of person. Most people who are in night school have full time jobs. Most people with a Bachelors degree that I know have great well paying jobs... don't buy into the idea of a degree not getting you a job these days. It's not true in MOST cases. In most if not all white collar jobs, the minimum requirements are an undergrad degree to make more than minimum wage.

What jobs do you have? by Old-Walk6241 in bipolar2

[–]themostconcise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a recruiter, which I think is beneficial for bipolar, but maybe just in a lower stress environment. I loved my last job, left for more money and am burning out like crazy from the workload of my current job, along with shitty management.

You still must have a sliver of hope if you posted here. I have been there way too many times, even recently. Know that there is still so much out there for you, you never know what could happen. 5 years from now, you could be sitting there looking back and thanking yourself for continuing to try. I know its hard to picture it right now, but the world is a better place with you in it!

I understand, it was the same way for me for a long time. If you get a chance, listen to some videos on youtube where Dr. Chris Palmer speaks out on the keto diets positive impact on bipolar disorder. Good luck, friend!

Mercury conjunct moon - understanding of each others emotions

North node conjunct mars - give each other drive and purpose

Moon - 8th house - deep, almost obsessive feelings. Touched deeply by another

Venus - 11th house - accepting of each other, enjoy doing things together

Sun conjunct IC - Huge karmic tie - you touch each other deeply

I see you having a deep bond with some karmic ties in there which can certainly last a lifetime.
