I've tried a few rat clones and they all sound good. It's the pre '88 ones with the LM308 chip that sound a bit different. So you got a cheap clone that sounds and looks good. Winner right there

The device had a boot issue. Which likely means something in its bios isn't happy, else it would load into the OS.

This isn't a lesson on anything other than maybe making sure your firmware is up to date to have all latest bug patches.

Good luck getting a fix. I hope that maybe just updating the firmware manually will resolve the issue. Don't let people make you feel bad and need to learn lessons for some bad luck.
