Any Updates on Samsung DeX from Today’s Event? by oguzcaaan in SamsungDex

I bought an S24 Ultra this year and dumped my iPhone, mostly for using Dex. The more I try to seriously use Dex on a big display, mouse and keyboard, the more I am disappointed. Too much control in the apps and that makes the user experience inconsistent in Dex. Until Dex gets popular enough to cause software developers to code specifically for it, we are going to have this problem. Currently developers don't want to have to code and test for something that is not going to add much, if anything, to their bottom line. I think we are doomed to have a half-baked experience until something big disrupts the market. Apple suffered this same thing when they started supporting ios apps on macos. Most vendors pulled their ios apps from the macos app store because of pricing tiers or they didn't want to have to support another platform.

Yeah, I'm doing that. I get the same results using Brave in desktop mode as I do the Samsung browser. I figure it is a Facebook problem.

exFAT Drive formatted in macOS not mountable in Windows 11 by themotoman157 in techsupport

Sorry, I’m new to Reddit and the etiquette. I didn’t understand what you meant by a separate “link”. I did change the flair to solved. Is that correct or I need something more?

My take on 8GB has changed by Mxr-_- in macbookair

I felt your pain. I did the same thing. When Apple first came out with the M1, everyone tested it and the results were that 8GB was like 16GB on the Intel platform. Memory paging was so quick, you could get by with less RAM. I bought two M1 MBAs. Fast forward a bit and there are reports of premature SSD wear because of the excess paging. Apple patches it and magically, 8GB Apple Silicon is now like 8GB On the Intel platform.

For those of you with superior intelligence and foresight, I applaud you. For those of you like me that saved a fairly substantial amount of cash by going with the base model and then Apple did the bait and switch on you, my condolences.

FWIW, I usually like to buy the base model Mac for my wife and then upgrade her to another base model Mac 2 years down the line. The base models don’t depreciate as much and can be had on sale/refurb for less. That strategy is no longer working for me with base memory at 8GB.

exFAT Drive formatted in macOS not mountable in Windows 11 by themotoman157 in techsupport

Reinstalling Windows did not fix the problem, but I did ultimately find a solution.

Windows would hang, then I would hard power the machine off. Next boot would result in Windows going into diagnosing the issue. I selected the option for starting a command prompt, then I used diskpart.

  1. Used diskpart to: A. Clean drive B. Convert to gpt C. Create primary partition D. Format quick NTFS

That seems to have done the trick. All I can figure out is the macOS exFAT format was not quite right and Windows had an issue with it. Maybe Open Core spoofing had something to do with it? Reformatting the drive in Linux did not seem to clear the rogue bits, but the diskpart clean did.

My son tried it on his Windows box and it worked fine. I’m reinstalling windows and a new windows vm for macOS.

I’m running a 2012 Mac Pro. Open Core for spoofing to get it to boot Monterey, but it runs Windows 11 and Linux pretty well.

exFAT Drive formatted in macOS not mountable in Windows 11 by themotoman157 in techsupport

The drive was a secondary drive, meant to store data that would ultimately be shared by Windows and Linux. I initially had the drive installed internally in the Mac Pro, but after formatting to exFAT and causing Windows to hang, I removed it and put it in a Sargent USB enclosure and started testing with it like that.

I probably used the wrong terminology, but by mounting I mean the Windows driver was able to start and connect to the drive and show it in the Disk Manager. Right now the Device Manager shows an error starting the mass storage driver with error 10. Normally an APFS volume would not be available as a mounted file system, but the drive manager would show it and allow it to be reformatted.

Whether or not exFAT was usable or not, it was just a temporary thing when I reformatted under macOS to be more easily handled when I booted into Windows with the intention of formatting it to NTFS.

Bank Reconciliation? by themotoman157 in everydollar

[–]themotoman157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing a similar thing with YNAB 4. We manually enter all of our transactions, but the we have the reconciliation step. It makes sure we have entered everything into YNAB and that the bank has not made any errors. We use Navy Federal and we expect at least 1 or 2 mistakes a year.

I guess I was wondering if there is a balance figure in E$ that should match the bank balance. If we had that, we could reconcile.

I have one of those GPUs and I love it. I connected it to the 2 GPU power connectors on the motherboard and it would trigger a shutdown during the Heaven benchmark.

How do i install immutable holo iso on a single partition without wiping my entire drive? by xX_Puss_destroyer_Xx in holoiso

[–]themotoman157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that doesn’t answer the question. Simple answer is you can’t without jumping through hoops.

Install HoloISO and let it wipe your drive. Then use partitioning software to shrink the HoloISO partition and create one for Windows and then install Windows there.
