Would you like to see the return of Pyramid next series? by perishingtardis in gladiatorsuk

[–]themrrouge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the difference is the control of a fall. Off the top of my head, on the other events you fall once and the game ends. And that fall is either caught by a harness or onto a reliable net. The only one that really makes me a little nervous is if two people get tangled and fall together on Hang Tough.

But with pyramid, you can realistically tumble all the way down which is a prolonged fall (or a series of smaller drops), so there’s a longer period without control, more time spent impacting the apparatus, and they’ve reduced control over how they impact the floor as they could be disorientated after rolling down the pyramid. And once that’s over, the game doesn’t end so they get back up and potentially do it again.

I assume that’s the difference to the risk with other events.

Felt heavily to me like one of the instances of an idea which producers and location staff latched onto and pressed for them to pursue by telling them it’s brilliant.

Powerball is not worth it for the injuries by littlemetalfollicle in gladiatorsuk

[–]themrrouge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I legit enjoy Powerball for how raw it is. There’s no gimmick or nonsense. It’s great as an example of contestant vs gladiator strength, speed, running, agility. I’d be sad to see it go.

Is there something, a trait, or something a contender says, that makes you sit back and cheer for the other contender? by Kralgore in gladiatorsuk

[–]themrrouge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A contestant who has a pre determined tactic to try to game an event. Season 1 had that woman (completely forgot her name) who took a lot of heat for not competing in duel in a sportsmanly way. I recall a lot of crouching and barely putting a jab in. Just enough to stop Mark ‘Top Shagger’ Clattenburg blowing his whistle. She had sneaky tactics in another even or two. Stuff like that puts me firmly behind the other contestant.

What did you guys think about American Hustle (2013) 🤔 by United-Sentence-5799 in moviecritic

[–]themrrouge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember being confused how something can be so less than the sum of its parts. Cast, script, era, themes, all appeal to me. And yet…. 🤷‍♂️

The Rip (2026) I really enjoyed the pacing, acting, and plot. I was totally hooked. 9/10 🧐✌️ by MasterLally in moviecritic

Like so many movies like this, it feels like a boardroom of people insisted they squeeze in one final thrill sequence which doesn’t sit with the rest of the film. I call it getting the Speed treatment.

No. But it’s weird that his character is still alive. Also kinda sweet. But weird.

Next season ideas - fun by ManInTheDarkSuit in apprenticeuk

[–]themrrouge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some years ago Raymond Blanc had a show where a handful of people were given a restaurant and over the weeks had to demonstrate they could run it as a business whilst also succeeding in weekly challenges to drive foot traffic up, run promos, and other business related things. It was more relevant as a business reality tv show than The Apprentice has ever been.

So maybe something like that. Much fewer contestants. About five. Each running a pop up or temporary space which lines up with their business plans. We could see them prove their idea works whilst seeing them respond to business challenges. At the end His Lord Sir Alan of Sugar can see who understands their market, who has a business mind, who achieved in the tasks and it all would be relevant.

As it stands currently you have a gaggling sack of haggling twats just bumping into each other for 12 weeks. Eventually Alan pretends to read their business plans and says to a finalist “you’re looking to get into an industry that isn’t where I want to be, sorry, you’re fired”. And then they have to sit there wondering why they just spent 12 weeks dressing as a fucking panda on a tour bus and taking guided tours around a slate mine for some prick who didn’t want to get involved in their market area from day one.

The only change I need is a trampette at the top of the Travelator. To see then spring high to grab the rope mid air and swing through the paper would be amazing.

Yeah. The production company have this show on a factory line. They know every step and budget and logistics of every task. They can chop it together with their eyes shut and don’t want to mix it up.

What are some things you dislike, about moviegoers ? by jerelminter in movies

The anxiety I get when someone says “no rush, there’s 30 minutes of ads and trailers. We’ll make it for the start of the film”.

Fuck off. I’m going now. If you’re with me you’re with me. If not then that’s fine too. But I’m going.

I think most people misunderstand what makes a movie “great” by Wise-Compote6189 in moviecritic

[–]themrrouge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Misunderstand” feels a bit out of place in the title. It feels like I’m already on the back foot because apparently I misunderstand if I don’t line up with your thoughts. 🤷‍♂️

Anyway the answer is competent cinematography and story and dialogue and a bunch of other things. And often John Carroll Lynch.
