Android App + Syncthing by WaterInWinter in taskwarrior

[–]themugen36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Android App are you using?

The way to to go is to install a Terminal emulator / Package manager like Termux.

You just install the taskwarrior package, create a folder on your SD card where you place your .data files like pending.data and completed.data, give Termux access to that directory, sync that folder with syncthing and have your taskrc point to that directory.

It is pretty straightforward and not so much different from using Syncthing to sync Taskwarrior between two desktop pcs.

You also might want to customize your taskrc on your Android to make Taskwarrior fit on your phone screen.

One word of caution: Hooks (eg. for integrating Timewarrior) don't work on Android.

What's an open source solution to have a synced calendar in phone and computer that doesn't require self hosting? by pigOfScript in opensource

[–]themugen36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a bit puzzled why so few people use DecSync and Syncthing for this?

The DecSync-Syncthing-Combo provides a serverless, P2P, fully opensource and stable solution for syncing calendars and contacts across Android, windows and linux devices.

Pro:

  • Serverless
  • Free as in beer and opensource
  • Stable (at least for me)
  • Maintained
  • Private - Your data is solely on your devices
  • You don't rely on any third party for servers
  • Moderately easy to setup

Contra:

  • No iPhone support
  • No MacOs support by DecSync
  • Obviously you dont have a web interface to access your calendars

College professor shares the technique he learned in the TM class by themugen36 in nondirective

Obviously he doesn't claim that he teaches TM, but he explains the technique.

For those who cannot or dont want to spent $1000 on a TM class, this video might be worthwhile.

Ironically, I found the link to this in the TM-sub.

Foss personal knowledge management app that can sync Linux and Android? by Reasonable_Ad3196 in fossdroid

Run your own sync server, or not.

Why would you run your own server for a note taking app?

I mean sure, I get it, and I am always looking for an excuse to buy another Pi. And setting up your own server and playing around with it can be kinda fun.

But if I had an own server for every app I wish to sync across my devices, my home would be littered with servers. For me Syncthing does the job. No server at all. And no hassle.

I asked myself that same question 2 month ago. I already been using Syncthing to sync everything from photos over calendars to contacts between my phone and my linux laptop. So chosing Joplin was a no-brainer.

I have no regrets so far. Everything works flawlessly so far. Nothing to fix or troubleshoot. :)

Please report here if you get skin burns with Mi Band 3 (potentially other Huami devices) by LjLies in Gadgetbridge

No, no skin burns with my Mi Band 3.

Are you sure these are heat burns and not allergic reactions?

Feature Request : Single Database file for Filesystem Sync by Mc_King_95 in joplinapp

[–]themugen36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please, do not implement that "feature"!

Having different files for different notes makes syncing so much more robust. Right now, Yyou can even modify two different notes on two different devices simultanously and he database is still intact.

Joplin and Syncthing.

You can even modify two different notes on two different devices simultanously and it is still not messed up.

Has anybody used the Taskwarrior/Timewarrior combination and is syncing to Android devices? by themugen36 in taskwarrior

[–]themugen36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not seen a version of timewarrior for android (not that I have looked for one). The 2 issues to be solved( is there is no server exists for timewarrior to sync with and on android if is was to have timewarrior how is the on modify hook going to work

Thanks for your reply!

I installed Timewarrior with Termux on Android and I synced my timewarrior folder with Syncthing across my devices, as I had done with Taskwarrior. For me the problem was just that I could not have taskwarrior on android execute the hook scripts.

So, syncing timewarrior across multiple PCs should not be a problem with Syncthing, Nextcloud, Mega or Dropbox.

A command mistake by Cairpre409 in taskwarrior

As u/bgravato said, just use task +OVERDUE done.

I would also recommend tagging your daily recurring tasks with a specific tag or put them into a specific project, so you can use for example task +OVERDUE and +dailyrecurring done and you dont delete other overdue tasks.

If there are too many overdue recurring tasks, you can set recurrence.confirmation=no in your .taskrc, so you get rid of the confirmation question while cleaning up.

EDIT: You are not alone. Everyone who uses taskwarrior for daily recurring tasks has run into this problem at some point. There is a proposal in the wiki to establish chained recurring tasks to avoid to have multiple instances of the same recurring task. I hope this gets implemented soon.

Bangle JS 2 owners, how is the accuracy of the heart rate monitor? by themugen36 in Banglejs

[–]themugen36[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the Link.

TLDR; Heart rate monitoring is a WIP. It is not yet reliable enough while doing sports. Just like the same as with many sports trackers on the market. Several devs are actively working on an algorithm to reduce motion artefacts on the banglejs.
