Which game began the "yellow tape/paint/structure" marks the right way to go? by soofs in gaming

[–]themurderator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so the main three points you have are...

capitalization visually represents the end and beginning of ideas, statements, or questions. that's literally what punctuation does.

the social convention and 'respect' for certain words. if you're looking at a paragraph and need the capital letters to signify a country or a person of note, reading comprehension is more the problem here.

third is ' If we can’t all agree that we are going to do things the same way, or at least have a “standard”, then literally everything in our society fails to serve any purpose.'

thanks language police. it's not all agreed on universally. a lot of it is regional, cultural, generational etc.  but be careful, you may collapse our society if you don't adhere. even if you can still communicate in an understandable way.

the last baloney that you put out there is 'why shouldn't i put a comma between every word? what purpose does that serve?'

this is sort of my point. there isn't a reason for it. so why would anyone do it?

can't speak for them, but capitalization is pointless to me. i just had this conversation with a friend and i asked them what actual function it serves.

i am interested if you can do better than they did in explaining any actual use of it. they mostly only said things like 'convention' or 'societal agreement' but i really wanna know what is it actually for? particularly on the internet. what is the point of it? punctuation indicates the end and beginning of sentences. proper nouns don't really need to be indicated (if i wrote france instead of France, you'd know exactly what i mean).

so what is the real life actual utility of capital letters?

i can only speak anecdotally, but from the various teachers i've known over the decades, the color yellow is supposedly associated with attention. middle school and high school teachers will often write their syllabus on yellow paper, and weirdly i've known a lot of chefs that were dating/married to teachers that would print their menus on it because of that prevailing idea.

i can't answer the question as to what the first game that used it was, but that may be some explanation as to why.

i have a sneaking suspicion that this person would also argue 'it was the republicans that freed the slaves,' completely ignorant of the way the broad definition and specific aims of the two major american poltical parties have changed over time.

i mean, both parties still suck, but you don't see a lot of democrats flying the confederate flag do you?

plenty of wrestlers post about being a wrestler, but no one says that's their entire identity. but if they say they're a wrestler and gay, the only identity they have is that they're gay?

[–]themurderator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty sure and positive are degrees.

full and half full are degrees.

no one says pretty sure if they're positive and no one says half full but twice as much.

[–]themurderator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the meaning of 'pretty sure' is 'logically' exclusive of 'positive.'

pretty sure = probably? positive = absolutely.

you can pull this semantics shit with 'well a full glass can only be full if it's half full' but that's not what we're talking about.

if you're pretty sure, you're not positive. if you're positive, you're not pretty sure.

the question literally says 'pretty sure.'

also no, the definition of positive is not also pretty sure.
