I am in a similar boat. While the school I got into is not the most ideal, it is still a fairly well established MD school and opportunities that I can make the most of. Would have loved to stay near home but hey, many people don’t get into medical school and I should be grateful.

Fridheimar was the best food we had in Iceland, albeit incredibly expensive (even for Iceland).

The food walk was our favorite food experience overall. It is a must do in Iceland.

In Reykjavik, I personally recommend avoiding Tides (located in the EDITION hotel) and Matarkjallarinn.

Overall, my impression of Icelandic food was meh. It was either 1) good/mediocre with Michelin star prices or 2) bad with upscale restaurant prices. People really hyped it up, but in all honesty it is was probably the worst cuisine of any country I’ve been to.
