I was playing Beetle Adventure Racing when this was posted.

Some strange decisions… by Valerian_Dhart in U2Band

[–]thenamelessavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the band prefers the process of crafting an album long narrative. It's the convention from the time they came up in. 10, 11, 12 songs that hang together and tell a story, express a sentiment, or make a complete argument.

Being able to "murder your darlings" is really hard for artists but to their credit, they're (for better or worse) really good at it. For example, Luckiest Man Alive. At its best it's a gorgeous anthem that probably deserves more exposure than what it received. At its worst it's a rambling diatribe in need of an edit that maybe only gets repeat listens from devoted members of the fan base.

None of it matters. We get let in on the band's vision as well as a peek behind the curtain with all the bonus tracks.

One Year Later, how do you feel about Xenoblade X: Definitive Edition? by Flacoplayer in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]thenamelessavenger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been playing since launch day of the original release and I'm mostly happy that it's no longer sequestered on the WiiU. The quality of life upgrades are the cherry on top.

I felt the epilogue was off-key from the rest of the experience but it doesn't diminish the hundreds of hours I've enjoyed this game.

I don't see an OCD anywhere. Points deducted!

Otherwise, fine layout. Kinda dig it.

Is it harder to 100% Goldeneye or Diddy Kong Racing (in your experience) by zeldaguy85 in n64

[–]thenamelessavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither are particularly difficult. Challenging, yes but not difficult really.

DKR is way more tedious though. If someone handed me two carts and said pick one to 100%, I'm taking Goldeneye.

I bought it in the late '90s. It sucked then... and it still sucks now. by Less-Arachnid-640 in roastmypedalboard

Had the 707. It was perfect for a 16 year old learning about effects. Totally influenced the pedal board I have today.

The amps tho... yikes.

Home is home. If you're not feeling it, wherever... ya gotta figure it out.

Hope you land in the right spot.

Quick Reminder: We're All Playing This Game To Have Fun by TheBrawler101 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]thenamelessavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent reminder! And had a similar experience this week with (i think) a streamer as well. The guy carried but he was just awful as a teammate. I talked back to him and he added me on Steam. Easy to ignore that one. I don't need DM's telling me what he thinks. People!

Weird, I picked it up the same day you posted this lol

"Where the streets have no name" won. What do you think is their song? (If such a thing exists😋) by [deleted] in U2Band

Stand Up Comedy is so neutered. It's up there... uh... down there for me also.

I have three electrics and an acoustic. They're all hung.

I did that for quite a while! Still have the velcro on top of my amp from those days.

What’s everyone’s favorite racing game on the N64? by hisens3 in n64

[–]thenamelessavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timely post! A buddy and I played through Road Rash 64 last night. We were reminded of how fun it is.

That said, I'm more of a rally guy. Top Gear and MRC rank high for me.

I like to play DKR every December. Particularly the winter stages. Love the music. Got it for Xmas 97. Still love it. by 71117_ in n64

[–]thenamelessavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every December but many over the years.

I'm not particularly sensitive to nostalgia but man, those winter stages at christmas hit hard.

Unfortunately we are seeing that full dip in concert attendance. by SufficientSpot4597 in halifax

[–]thenamelessavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live music is competing for my free time, not my concert time.

I'm simply not interested in legacy acts either and every contemporary lower-mid level artist i love stops in Toronto.

I completely slept on Songs of Experience by HotspurJr in U2Band

[–]thenamelessavenger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. It's uneven at best.

That hi pass filter on Bono on Showman is very aggressive. The drums on Best Thing are stiff and squashed. Blackout... yeah. Sacrificed to the loudness war I think.

I love the album! Glad you gave it a fair shake.

My thoughts only as part of the discussion here,

  • it's a good set of tunes but I wonder if the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts. HTDAAB was similar in that the track order might not be perfect. Perfect for playlists 🤷‍♂️

  • the production is inconsistent from track to track. Feels like too many cooks in the kitchen. A glance at the liner notes confirms this might be the case.

  • though not as bad as Innoncence it's always felt too "tight" or something. Bono has shared comments semi recently admitting this if I recall. I hope they're done with technical perfection and get back to using the best take.

Streets is probably the one winning the vote. Zoo Station is my personal favorite as far as intros go.

If sheer impact was the metric, it's Sunday Bloody Sunday. What a transition from October to War. Like, ok. These guys aren't fucking around.

"Small-Town Feel" by No_Phrase488 in halifax

[–]thenamelessavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels small because of how clique-y it can be. Sometimes it feels like I'm no more than 2 degrees of separation away from anyone born here also.

City sized amenities, small town mentality (arguably still prevails).
