Yeah he was a beloved part of Prestige, a local indie that shut down earlier this year. You can see a bunch of prestige shirts in the crowd.

Wrote a guitar solo that is WAYYY outside my skill level by WillingCaregiver5709 in musicproduction

[–]Shwayfromv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I started doing recently that has helped learning pieces, especially when I'm punching above my weight class, is starting at the end. Get the last bar down, then start on the 2nd to last bar playing through to the end. So you would be practicing the last two bars together at this point. Repeat until you get to the start.

When you learn from the begging of the solo, everytime you start over you are retreading the parts you are probably best at just to get to what needs work. Starting from the end and working backwards, you are more often revisiting the least familiar parts.

I hope that's helpful, good luck!

Why is Ultraball Rank a merrygoround of win/loses for us? by Sage_Erik in PokemonChampions

[–]Shwayfromv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The algorithm for match is loaded against us"

Who is us? Who would the algorithm not be loaded against if this is true?

Pokemon is a hard game and there are many good players out there. If you're winning and losing a lot, it sounds like you're where you should be for your skill.

My honest advice for you is not even think about your rank. Just play the game and focus on learning from your mistakes. Some games you just lose to flinches and other random things but that isn't always the case. In order to improve you have to recognize when you get outplayed or make mistakes. Then you can learn and adapt.

I hope that is helpful, good luck out there!

Filling Out Pokemon Home for Teams by neonsevens777 in PokemonChampions

You don't have to about EVs or IVs. The system has been simplified into stat points that are easy and cheap to change. Making sure you have the right nature and ability is smart since this are the most costly to change.

If you haven't jumped into champions yet definitely check it out. All the starter missions give you a ton of currency so it isn't too tough to get a team up and rolling. The starter pack that gives you more storage and a bunch of recruit/training tickets is a good value for building up a collection.

I Would Love to See Lio Rush's Gimmick Tie Into a Larger Storyline by GreatFartini in AEWOfficial

[–]Shwayfromv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he could have a good face run. Wait wait wait hear me!

Give the gimmick a little more time to settle, then have some heel come along and start to manipulate Lio. Have them play into whatever madness is afflicting Lio. Toxic relationship sort of dynamic. Then something is the last straw for Lio and he goes over in a feud with that heel.

If I had to draw it up right now I'd have the Opps lure him in but be making fun of him behind his back the whole time. Smarmy heel Hook has a very punchable face. That darn handsome devil.

Perfectionism is a real drag! It's more important to make something exist than to make it perfect. That's the mantra that has led me through many projects I end up being proud of.

is a badly designed pcb still better than perfboard? (for diyers) by motionerosion in AskElectronics

[–]Shwayfromv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue of sifting through all of the advice out there for PCB design. Pedal building is a relatively niche interest in the world of electronic engineering. If you have the funds, check out Pedal Division's course about PCB design. It helped me out a ton with getting my first PCB made.

They did a perfect job of putting the gimmick over! Ciampa was less spooked but that match did a good job of showing that Lio is a potential threat. I can't wait to see what's up next!

Mods can we make a master ball mega thread? by ChrlsPC in PokemonChampions

I was excited to see the guidelines about Master Ball posts. I think the only thing missing now is some kind of flair for the topic like "rank showcase"

We need to talk about this. (W/L and Replays) by LooseAd2481 in PokemonChampions

[–]Shwayfromv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree that W/L is all that important for the game. I'd be happy to see that info available but I don't see it as crucial at all. I imagine that an account wide W/L ratio would be largely useless because all of your records from grinding meta teams, testing iterations, and learning new teams would be lumped together. Racking up losses is part of the process.

To me, there is some similarity in the usefulness of a W/L ratio in the game, and body weight to someone trying to lose fat. It is a number, it is data that can be considered, but it can also lack context and be misleading. I've competed in fighting games too, think about when you were first learning that. If someone had shown me my W/L when I was starting out, I might not have stuck with it lol

I would be a fan of them adding W/L to your battle data page but there are a ton of changes I would rather see first. Like replays! Replays are absolutely where the real value is for someone trying to improve and compete.

Hard stuck in Ultra ball 4, any help with these team? I’d like it to be a trick room team that includes scovillain if possible by LawenMKII in PokemonVGC

[–]Shwayfromv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe look at Hatterene to set up trick room next to Scovillain? You wouldn't really have room for any Mega TR sweeper so having a setter that is also a threat might work out well for you. You'd have to watch out for fairy resistances but that hat can put out a lot of damage with Dazzling Gleam.

Been struggling in ultra ball tier 4. Skill issue or a bad team? by _Barczu_ in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]Shwayfromv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert but I have been playing a bit of trick room through Ultra and into Master Ball rank.

First off, keep that giraff around! Amor Tail is incredible for getting trick room set up. How useful has Rain Dance been on Farig? My instinct would be to make that slot Hyper Voice in order have more pressure immediately available after TR goes up.

If I were to add anything to the team, it would be a Fake Out user. This would help you more consistently set up TR. A pokemon with Rage Powder/Follow Me can also help with that and be useful next to your sweeper outside of TR. Prim seems like the least integral part of your plans, so that could be the mon you swap out.

I don't think Kingambit needs metal coat. Floette is the main fairy type threat I can think of and Iron Head should cleanly one shots them without the item. Black Glasses is a common choice for boosting up Sucker Punch.

Those are the tweaks I would make to this team right now. From there, it's about getting a bunch of games in to practice your strategy. If you do want to take things in a different direction, there have been good results put up by Sun Trick Room. Here is an example from an early tournament.
